Meh, different illustrators work better with different genres, just like authors. My guess is that authors seek out different illustrators (if they can) depending on the content of their stories. I mean you wouldn't have CLAMP (I know they're mangaka, but I don't know many illustrator names... so I'm putting forth the hypothetical situation where CLAMP's distinctive style is used for pure-illustration) working Hagure Yuusha now would you?

If CLAMP wants to work on a Light Novel, it doesn't matter what the genre is because they have a brand name already that would attract interest- The Editor/Publisher main concern would never be 'Does this fit the Image?'...

There is a certain type of influence, Editors won't say give the illustrator of Gundam Unicorn a LN done by someone working for MF Bunko for example. He won't be able to convey the extremely fanservice driven scenes you get from MF Bunko.

14 volumes down the road Kiyotaka Haimura had to find a way to draw irregular shaped mecha for Kazuma Kamachi despite mecha's aren't his specialty.

Well, now there's one (or two) manga series that'll end this summer.

They are stopping it after 4 volumes, it did have a decent fan base on the English manga sites, but I can't say I'm unhappy it ended. I personally liked the novels and the anime a lot better, something about the manga art I didn't really enjoy. Well it may not have been bad, mostly personal interest. Anyways, means the rumored art on some sites of a possible "season 2" weren't for the manga. If it's authentic, my hopes for a season 2 anime are raised.
I agree with ZeroXSEED that it isn't surprising, considering Media Factory gave the Infinite Stratos rights back to the maker. Anyhow, I think I saw somewhere that Media Factory kept the anime rights. Sorry, if I repeated something, just skimmed this thread and wanted to join in the discussion.
