It's been a while... but you know what, I'm still playing. I haven't touched my PS3 since May 5th 2012 (the day I bought TERA). I know, I didn't buy it from day 1.

When Diablo 3 came out (May 15th 2012), I bought it day 1, on a midnight special opening. Played it for 3 weeks along with TERA in the mix. After 3 weeks, I'm sick of D3, but not TERA.

Even though I'm not near the LVL cap (which is 60). I'm currently LVL 45 with my main character, a sorceress. I'm still enjoying the game.

My past experiences with MMORPGs have been with FFXI and Lineage 2 :

- FFXI = Couldn't solo past LVL 12-13, a waiting game (waiting for the right party). I only played during the summer beta (back in 2003).

- Lineage 2 = I played this game from 2004 to 2007... but really, I stopped in 2006 (around November 2006 = FFXII just came out). By the time I reached the high LVLs in Lineage 2, most players had multiple accounts... so finding a party was hard. I mean most players who had multiple accounts, had already a buffer, healer, damage dealer in their party. I was just a nuisance walking around. I gave it one last shot during the summer of 2007.

I tried "Sword of the New World" (Granado Espada) during that summer (2007), but I grew tired of it quickly. The music in this game though, was awesome, at least for me.

Now back to TERA.

Here are some screencaps of my lovely sorceress :

Tera is great because the core system is fun.

Tera is bad because the decisions made the the dev team are dumb regarding both endgame and fluff.

First, no fluff (crafting/side missions/time wasting activities like fishing and minigames).

Second, best things come from instances, discourages pvp and community.

Third, no real endgame.

It's a great game, but some things need to change.

My account is still active but I was out on vacation for a couple of weeks and since then I've been "very popular" (dragged off for a multitude of short work projects).

Fourth, enchanting. And enchanting. And enchanting. Did I mention enchanting?

How To Enchant:
1) Load Gun with 5 bullets in 6 chambers.
2) Aim at Foot
3) Scream "Enchant!" and pull trigger.

Yeah. It's like I posted on the official forums:

Enchanting in TERA isn't fun or rewarding. It's either a relief if you get a plus-one and don't lose hundreds of gold in alkahest and hundreds/thousands more in fodder gear... or it's frustrating when you waste all the money and get nothing in return.

When I successfully enchant, I don't feel happy. When I finally got my gear to +9, I didn't cheer or dance around and I didn't have a smile on my face. I simply said in guild chat, "it's about fucking time."

This is very different from when I kill a boss in SWTOR and get a shiny new lightsaber crystal, hilt or armor modification. I'm quite happy when I get those, because I know all I have to do is hit control-rightclick and slot it in, and voila, my weapon or armor is stronger than it was before!

No dice rolls involved. No expensive materials purchased from an NPC required.

TERA's enchanting system is a load of lazy crap. It takes less than a minute to code a random number generator in pretty much any high-level programming language. This is not challenging or engaging. It's simply rolling the virtual dice.

Edit: I can't be the only person who wants to see an MMO with the Asian "cute" and the Western focus on smooth endgame progression and variety of content, all combined into one. Why hasn't someone made this yet?! I WILL THROW MONEY AT YOU.

Can anyone with experience in the game tell me if there's anything fishy about it (related to how the game works) they're not telling.

Well, I might re-install and see what they've done with RP features or if the cash shop is amusing enough.

PvE endgame sucks balls. That's about it. Really not very different from Aion.

The middle game is pretty fun though, despite being bog-standard MMO questing.

I see. Thank you very much for the warning.

Does this game require a lot of bandwidth to play? I'm moving to a new place soon and the broadband will only be around 20 kb/s.

Whaa....

That's slower than 56k (dial-up). Are you that's broadband?

56k dial up is 4 kilobytes per second lol. The house I'm moving to has a net speed that fluctuates between 20 and 40 kilobytes per second.

bytes do not equal bits You're going to be okay I think. The actual network traffic isn't that horrible and you can always dial back your maximum distance view.

I used to play EQ and EQ2 on dual-sync'd dial up modems 26.4kbit modems (two land lines) and rarely had trouble.
