i think it will be light-hearted since if it grimdark like madoka, people will say it "just Madoka with different character" or "why don't make a spin-off in Madoka world like Oriko and Kazumi if it dark" and it won't stand out. SHAFT is famous for being unique with their anime so i don't think they gonna make a madoka-like anime here

There have been plenty of darker takes on magical girl anime over the years; I liked Madoka quite a lot, but it is neither unique, special, nor genre-redefining.

I really wish they would've waited a couple more years to put out another Mahou Shoujo anime.

Because we all know this is going to be compared to Madoka to hell and back which might harm or hurt the show.

Maybe they should use grimdark twists in a more hidden and subtle way than Madoka.

Or it doesn't need to be dark at all. Being "dark" doesn't automatically make it a well told story.

You can't say this show's not getting any publicity right now, with the way people are either hyping it up to be the next Madoka, or damning it because it might not be.

I wouldn't mind this being a rather 'ordinary' magical girls show. That's what I kinda expected from Madoka in the first place, before I learned who Gen Urobuchi is and what he's best known for.

Either way, I'm expecting SHAFT to throw a surprise or two down my way. Most of their shows have never really been 'ordinary', and I'm not expecting this to be any exception.

I am hoping it ahs no combat at all, I don't think I have watched a mahou shoujo show "aimed at males" that has emphasis on combat scenes.

I think this is going to be a light-hearted, comedy show (with lots of head tilt). At the present, its main attraction to me is Kantoku's art.

Nanoha and Madoka are examples of Mahou Shoujo shows aimed at males.
