Download speed

My dad installed this thing, not really sure what it's called...
It allows various computers to use the same internet.
[it says D-Link on it]

ever since that was installed my dls have been around 1-3kbps when
they were 25kbps before.

Is it just bad luck or does this D-Link thing affect it any?

Depends what this D-Link thing is? Do you have a model number? My guess would be a NAT-Router ... in which case you probably want to configure it to port forward to your computer.

Oh my god, nevermind, someone...help.
Same problem, and now, no matter WHAT FILE I DL, it is mostly 0kbps with a high of 3 which lasts for about 3s and then drops to 1!

This D-lInk thing seems to be a 'ethernet broadband router'
and im connected to 'local area connection', if I disconnect from it I loose internet.

it says 100.00MBps connection when I connect to it.

regular dl go fine, only BT is slow, which really sucks...
How do I fix it besides unconnecting thr device because my dad would...kill me if I did

I'm guessing the router is performing NAT so you have an internal IP address now (192.168.?.?). Your dad's (?) computer will also have one. Both will be sharing the public IP address. You need to forward the BitTorrent ports to your internal IP address. I'd tell you to look at the sticky's but really you should know that

That is about all I can say with the information you provide. If I knew the D-Link model number (normally a few letters then a dash and then a few numbers), I could look up the specs and documentation on the web -- but I don't have the number so I can't. Still, you could go to D-Links site and look as easily as I could.

the reason your getting slow or no download speeds is because by default most routers block certain incoming packets(other computers send packets to your computer to confirm that its accually there) bit torrent happenes to use those packets to connect to "peers" you have to configure the router to allow bit torrent to comunicate with your "Peers" uninterupted, to do this refer to the router manual that comes with all d-link routers

Btw my router is a DI-604 and i had the same problem you had till I configured my router
