This is why gold isn't selling on the RMAH at all; no one will buy it at the minimum price.

The ah price of star gems are higher than the crafting cost right now. It costs 500k gold to craft a star gem starting from flawless squares farmed in inferno, while star emeralds for example are around 640k on the ah. Probably the same for higher gems

It fluctuates. There was a gem crash when a bunch of people cashed out. On that note, brimstone is now going nuts in price due to the assumption that all the current Uniques would be out of date after the next patch.

Well, this is certainly something I'd like to see when I get my hand on a brown item.

I have managed to get half a dozen brown items in my playthroughs. If they are going to be usable in future drops I would be happy.
But the first thing I would do after the next patch is to finally finish leveling my Witch Doctor. I love the pet class.

It doesn't really matter, if you just want to change your gold into money. Just look up the RMAH price of gems and make sure the gold price for them in the normal AH isn't too out there.
All levels of high quality gems sell instantly at recommended listed price. It depends on how much gold you got. You should be able to work out the loss from taxes yourself. Just remember that you are trying to sell the gold less than the RMAH allow you to, because that's what they are really worth in the real world. Inflation is really bad.

Do not cash out right now.
If you wanted to cash out, you should have done it a few weeks ago. Now the economy is utterly crapped and items are worth a lot less. The main thing was when Gold sold on the RMAH, that it really did sell for 0.25 for 100k. That was nice, but that opportunity is clearly gone now. I recommend holding out until 1.04. Also, socketed a high end item with a high end gem can sometimes get around those nasty commodity RMAH fees, depending on how well you're selling.

Yeah, if the market revives by the new patch, it would certainly be a good idea to cash out then. Right now people like me are just waiting and not playing, so there are less buyers.

and why would you want to sell for 10usd/10m when you can sell for 25usd/10m (18usd when it arrives in your paypal after the 2 15% tax)? its just a matter of luck/time when your 10m gets sold over the billions if not trillions of gold out there at 0.25/100k.
im sure a good portion of buyers still prefer the RMAH over 3rd party sellers.

Well, that was quite an experience. After helping Archon Wing with Siegebreaker, we tried Inferno Whimsyshire again and encountered... four TINY boss unicorns. Which proceeded to kick our arses, as it seemed that they REALLY were a team (aptly labeled Team Unicorn) of four boss/gold monsters.

Indeed. Got my resists up to 940 but against desecrator/waller it might as well be -1000
Though base armor is a mere 5900; I need to improve that, but that looks expensive. Also, I got owned. I bought a 700k ammy and didn't found out it didn't really help, so I tried to sell it back. Unfortunately I was also planning to sell another crappy amulet for 150k, and accidentally swapped the prices. So the good ammy sold for 150k and the crappy ammy is still here. >.> So now I only have 300k left and nothing.

There's just too many suppliers and not enough buyers atm. I think it'll get worse as time passes.
Without a proper gold sink, only a fool is going to pay 0.25 per 100,000 gold. The inital burst in gold sales pretty much went bust-- now people know better.

4 yellow/rare unicorns...? never heard of it. that's overkill. 4 champs is bad enough.
you sell it at 10m for 25usd. someone buys it. blizz tax 15% for the sale since gold is considered commodity. 21.25 usd is left, if you put it in battle.net balance you get this. if you want to cash out to paypal, you pay another 15%. so in your paypal the amount you finally receive is only 18.06.
