I couldn`t find any relations. Their names in katakana on official sites are different:
Su-te-ra Bu-re-me-ru and Be-a-to-ri-ku-su Bu-re-me

It seems that names of Schwarzesmarken characters, created by Uchida Hiroki, based on names of famous German officers from WWII period as MisterV mentioned in atogaki.

If so, her name might have some relation with Rudolph Brehmer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolf_Brehmer

Total Eclipse characters were created by Youshimune Kouki and I can`t say, where he picked them.
Sweden is not so far from DDR so Beatrix, who seems to be in her 30th in 1983, even may be mother of Stella, who also seems to be in her 30 th, but in 2001

Katakana can be notoriously difficult to romanize at times. Just look at all the old controversy about how Lacus/Rux/Raks Clyne's first name was supposed to be romanized. Still, it'll be very interesting if they take that route.

I guess we'll have to wait till Schwarzesmarken is finished to find this out for certain. I know I'd love to watch an anime series based on Schwarzesmarken myself, assuming they managed to faithfully translate Carnelian's character designs over to animation.

I think I'm the only person on the internet who noticed (or paid enough attention to care) those '90s era Japanese Fortified Suits the episode 1-2 TE girls wear were actually recolored Schwarzensmarken suits.

No, I remember clearly that someone somewhere pointed out right back when episode 1 or 2 aired that they were using the same model of fortified suit that the Germans were using in '83, or at least one with the same exterior appearance. (The boxy glove parts being kind of distinctive initial giveaways and all even if you don't have an eye for detail).

Believing yourself to be the only person on the internet who noticed just because you don't hear it being talked about (because honestly it's a nice touch but who really cares all that much?) is the height of conceit.

Would you call it conceited if I said I think I'm the only person on the internet who thinks Rival-chan is overrated and that other girl with the same voice actress as Cure Peace and Squid Girl is a more compelling character?

This is essentially Muv-Luv Alternative/Unlimited (actually, now that I think about it, this would be canon for both verses since the divergence happens in 2001), mixed with Red Storm Rising, a good dose of stale beer spying, and "You Gotta Be Shitting Me" Wild Weasel missions against OMGWTFPWNHAX. With a dash of Yukikaze for the "Ignore allies in trouble" - although, to be fair, during 'Nam, Wild Weasels were specifically instructed to go for the SAM sites and ignore everything else, and would either be deployed solo or as escorts for a strike package.

So anyway I'm rather intrigued by this series - even though I keep putting off playing Extra, Unlimited and Alternative

I don't think Sakaki, and Noto, have had probs piloting with their glasses on. Those who have invented the suits have likely gotten around this issue.

Spoiler for ch8: Theodore finally came to realize that Irisdina's goal in life is to overthrow the Stasi. and that she is a student of Katia's father. After his heart to heart Theodore is now part of Irisdina's own personal "inner-circle" within the squadron and a part of the conspirators to overthrow the east German government. and now onwards to rescue Katia and Pham.
