I'm pretty sure Keima can't afford to mess this up too many times though. I noticed the number of bars on the orb decreased from 4 to 3 after that reset in time. That's likely how many chances he has. I assume if it runs out, the time continuum will branch away from the current one and create a whole different present. It's just my speculation of course, but I'd imagine this is quite likely.

I thought I was reading a completely different manga, Keima failed in his first capture?
Looks like he has 3 more saves before reaching game over, saving a suicidal girl with no information whatsoever in 3 tries? But then again, he is the capturing god, if he can't do it no one can

So essentially the author couldn't figure a decent way to continue the story so he decided to do a time travel arc. This time travel arc will allow him to retcon things so he can move forward the story in whatever way he likes.
That's pretty clever.
