A great many people out there do not have options like "cable" or "DSL" .... you can thank the telco monopolies and their effective lobbying.
Myself, I have to purchase satellite connectivity --- my telco can't even drive 56K .... they've got obsolete digital multiplexing relays that top out at 26.4kbps at their central office... this is Verizon mind you, not Sam's Podunk Telco. I have to shotgun two lines just to get 48kbps. They won't even provide ISDN.... ((and I live less than 3 miles from one of the largest Intel Corp. facility campuses))
