It seems that gameplay wasn't that much different, except that units enter an automatic Overwatch stance and fire at enemies at the end of their turns.

Also, it seems that there was a prescripted cutscene for every action

I can see why they toned this down in the actual game. The development cost would be expensive.

Actually, the implementation was that units would start shooting at each other when they entered each other's combat ranges, much like an RTS game. The mechanic stayed in later builds before being removed.

Though yeah, implementing the game such as that build showed would be back-breakingly expensive and technically nightmarish.

And I LOL'd at this:

Chitin Plating supposedly gives you a chance to shrug off effects like Chryssalid infestation from what I understand. One of the devs called it a "Chryssalid Condom" oddly enough

Seems like an armor upgrade to me. Note how the other guy has a "nanofiber vest" instead.

how is that supposed to prevent you from dying from being impaled through the torso?

I'm not really sure how, that's just how they described it. Though we'll get clarification on how it works once we get the full game.

Also, look what returns in the remake:

why do we have people bitching about 2K13 every day in the live stream?

Well, there's hardly any actual gameplay vids of 2k13 being shown I guess

Also, on the Chitin Armor just got clarification that it just increases resistance to melee attack, so you don't get instagibbed by Chryssalids.

Impossible Difficulty is sending some good signals up my gaming difficulty meter. Each and every game they attempted on Impossible has ended in complete and utter rape for XCOM. And this is on the neutered Impossible Difficulty, aka changing difficulty mid-mission instead of actually playing an Impossible campaign.

At least we can lay to rest the "game looks too easy" complaints.

Overwatch seems to have a huge tactical advantage

why come to the aliens and get shot?

why not the let the aliens come to you can get shot by your soldiers?

Because Overwatch has accuracy penalties, which means you're not guaranteed to hit anything, as shown a lot of times. Which means there's always the chance that your enemies can get close enough to you to get a shot off.

And camping isn't the wisest thing to do on a Terror Mission

Edit:

Here are the system requirements for the game as mentioned in the livestream -

In many cases I'd be cautious about this, but at the rate that the Rewards are being unlocked (Xcom went up on steam for sale only last night, and they're already at 69% for the first reward), I think it's very likely that we'll at least get the Elite Soldier pack and the TF2 items.

What the XCOM-themed TF2 promo items look like:

I replayed TFTD yesterday, to catch up on things

Oh God, now I remember why I never bothered to finish that game

UFO subs are too damn fast
everything blends into the green and blue background
useless Laser.. err Gauss technology
no autofire on Plasma.. err.. Sonic weapons
terrible ambient music
horribly annoying hide and seek terror missions

I still love the original Xcom very much, though
