I can't belive it. I finished this.

This story is just so epic and sad at the same time that i cannot even express what i feel right now. I have never played something like this, this story shook me to very core. Normal human suddenly thrown into another dimensions and overcome many trials to become mentally so strong that... Damn. I have troubles even describing my emotions .

What shook up me the most was probably the part with Meiya. I'm goddamn proud Meiya fan. I cannot believe that i came to like her some much. Unlimited part with her was sad. Was laughing when Takeru remembered "certain adventures" of his Unlimited route with Meiya in middle of Operation 21.

Still most awesome VN series I have ever played.

Well ending... What shocked me was sheer amount of beta. 10^37 is not a number to laugh at.

In the end Takeru lost everyone who was dear to him(I almost cried at scene with Meiya ). And also he has earned rest. Whether he died or returned to his own world. The fight is no longer his. May humanity win this war for existence.

After all Muv Luv did make me think about few thinks. Even 1 tiniest mistake can change the fate of many. To understand own mistake and accept means to become mentally stronger. In this regard Muv Luv teaches a few philosophical things.

I got to see how a kid grows into real man with real physical and mental strength by overcoming obstacles that would drive lesser minds insane. Nerves of Steel indeed.

Well time to replay Extra. To brighten my sad mood.

Well yeah, I meant that. Whats even more frightening is that every single one of those have their own army.Can't even laugh at that. BETA don't bother with tactics they HAVE NUMBERS. At the end of Alternative we finally got an answer to that question "just how many is that?" A long and tough fight indeed.

That's also considering the fact that all those BETA are mere servants of a greater power, their Creators have 10^37 worth of resource nodes serving their needs, and they don't consider carbon-based existences as lifeforms.

Not only that, but the BETA openly admit their primary purpose is to extract resources; imagine their counterparts that specialize in actual combat.

This is why some of the bitching against BETA and how they are piss poor weak compared to every alien in every sci-fi verses ever, and how could humanity not win against those Easy Modo can get grating. Yes, I KNOW they are weak and easy on the outside. But their numbers, judging from the number of Superiors that we find out in the game is so SOUL-CRUSHING DEPRESSING that nothing short of Kyuubey contracting Kasumi or any suriving loli to wish them away would help humanity.

But whenever I think of solutions in-universe.... Well, there is the possibility to upgrade that moorcock engine and possibly makes it smaller for practical use on TSF, unfortunatel, we will need G-Elements. Then there is that railgun in Total Eclipse. And Takeru's OS. Humanity's tactical victory ON EARTH is possible. But in the strategic scale? No. Unless, like Yuuko said (iirc), we manage to find Creators and negociate peace with them, and by proxy make the BETAs leaves the fuck alone humanity. But even, the possiblity is very slim because what will stop the Creators to pull a Cortes on humans? Nothing.

Thing is, compared to other SF verses, the BETA are Easy Mode - well, Laserspamhax aside.

But I agree, what everyone forgets is that if BETA are mining machines, then if they bring in their frontline combatants we are screwed so hard it isn't funny. Look at the grapplers and destroyers. It's a Zerg player who's using Ultralisks in zergling numbers.

Anyhow, clearing my hard drive (holy shit, my stash is how large? @___@) to reinstall Extra. Here goes.

It's the same problem with Crysis 2, really: sure, we defeated the NY Ceph, but there's so many of them still lying around, and Alcatraz speculates that these are the equivalent of gardening machines...

On the other hand, if Earth is able to secure control of all hives, and continue to successfully interdict all attempted hive landings, then this tactical victory might not be too bad...

That's still being really optimistic though; although Alternative IV allowed for a possible resolution to the BETA crisis, it didn't really solve the other reason why humanity was heading to extinction. Namely, the selfishness and stupidity of certain groups of human beings. Some of this is shown throughout Alternative; a more direct example would be the terrorist incident in Total Eclipse up to the cliffhanger.

All the weapons you see developed with the Alternative IV project to combat the BETA, can just be as easily turn on other humans. And as the BETA hives are captured, G-elements (and G-element derived weapon systems) would probably become more available to certain nations and organizations. I believe it was noted that with the success of Alternative IV, nations started re-focusing on locating and securing their own G-element stockpile. There's still a possibility that humanity will go extinct, only now they are even more capable of doing it to themselves.
