Translation of the full talk Manami gave to 11 year old Kirino.
I see. But you know, Kirino-chan.
I think liking onii-chan in that way is strange. I think it's not normal. I think it's weird. I think a lot of people will be disgusted at it.
Obviously, siblings won't be able to marry, both of your parents will certainly object to that.
The more serious Kirino-chan's feelings are, the more older you'll get without changing, the more unhappy someone will become.
It can't be helped, someone certainly will, for example, Kyou-chan, nothing you can do about it.
Not only the present Kyou-chan, but the one you liked in the past too.
Because you see, Kirino-chan, that "cool onii-chan" that you admired didn't even exist.
That's why, Kirino-chan.
You must not tell anyone about those feelings.
Hurry up and forget them, give it up, reconcile with your real onii-chan and become normal siblings!
Only posted it because it seems to include a bit more than the last post.
Still, in the 2nd oreimo game, To get Kirino's true route situation you had to beat all the other heroine's true routes. Hopefully the author will follow that final route because he himself wrote it.
Spoiler for Counterargument:
Major problem with that is it depends on Kirino not being a fully blood-related sister, but someone either adopted from outside the family or at least a cousin.
Sumeragi, according to your knowledge of the novel, does Manami know that Kirino hates her guts? Is she just playing the Ned Flanders part or is she just that dense to think she's talking to a friend?
Yes, I saw that picture as soon as it leaked on the Internet, the problem is I can't help of seeing a sinister "you can't win" smile coming from the bottom, after reading the spoilers.

Spoiler for Countercounterargument:
Thats true, but it seems as though the parents don't care about kyosuke at all. Notice in the animes that they really only care about Kirino, they always ask where she has been and how her day was. Another thing I speculate is that Kyosuke might have been added via adoption or their taking care of him due to something unfortunate to his old family. before Kirino was born It also explains in kirino's true route that they aren't blood related siblings. Also in the anime, the mom of the house definitely knows something but isn't saying anything at all

Spoiler for Correction to game comment:
No, not in the True Route, but in the "If" Route, which is an alternate take on the story. The very fact that it's in an alternate universe where they're not blood related suggests that they really are blood-related in the story proper.

Spoiler for Translation of the scene:
They reconciled.

Spoiler for Countercountercounterargument:
I have to say it stems from what we know from Volume 11: Kyousuke as of the start of the novels was just an average boy, nothing spectacular. On the other side we have the hyperactive whirlwind Kirino. It's always the potentially more problematic child that gets the parents' attention. Furthermore, Mother does not believe the siblings to have improper relationships, as noted in Volume 10.

Spoiler for Speculation based on the novels, up to the latest:
Isn't it the opposite? Kirino was the star student, the model, the athlete, and the pride of the family. Meanwhile, Kyousuke was something of a let-down; boring, nothing remarkable, just cruisin' through life. It always seemed to me that Kirino was getting the attention because she was something special, and Kyousuke was ignored because he was just sort of "there". Of course, what the novels are telling us now is that Kyousuke wasn't always this way; that he used to be ambitious, driven, and outgoing, and that was the sort of brother that Kirino admired.
And by the way, didn't they *not* reconcile in Volume 11, as it got put off for another time? I guess we're starting to get conflicting stories on the contents of the novel.

I never said mom suspected an improper relationship, i'm just saying she knows something they don't. In the anime she said "who would have thought" and left it at that.

Spoiler for Alternative Viewpoint:
Kyousuke's past is what made me think that way: Given how drastically he changed, the parents are most likely worried something might also happen to Kirino which would also affect her severely, and since she has a modelling job which is not known for being relatively risk-free, more reason for caution.
As for the reconciling part, my way of saying it was mostly they got the thing out in the open. While actual reconciliation as in making up and becoming friends is still a bit off, at least the cold war seems to be over. This answers Paracelsus's question on just how much Manami knew Kirino's feelings towards her.

Spoiler for Question:
With "Cold war over", you mean there is an openly declared "war" between the two of them now?

Spoiler for MANAMI:
Is going to fail this time stopping Kirino. Honestly its what I think because she just seems so confident in stopping kyosuke and kirino.
This is a pathetic way to justify Kirino's feelings and actions towards Kyousuke. By making Manami the 'evil' one. I should have not invested myself on this series just to end like this. Seriously, I want Kirino to just fucking die with her feelings getting unrequited. Kyousuke should just get with Kuroneko or any of the girls that's not Kirino. Volume 12 better end in my favor but that seems unlikely. But my fingers are still crossed.
I don't see how the novel is "justifying" anything. It just shows the flow of things and thus explains some of the more unverified aspects of Oreimo. Frankly, your possible bias against Kirino seems to have clouded your thoughts.
It actually is a perfect explanation, I don't see a problem with it
Spoiler for Kirino's Behaviour:
People call her a bitch but she's pretty normal around Ayase, Kanako and Saori, she's just a fangirl when bickering with Kuroneko, you can see her issue with Kyousuke and Manami is something that goes beyond being a jealous tsundere
Episode 5
Ki:I'm not going to just nod and do what you say, like Manami does
Ky:Hey you...
Ki: Don't touch me!
Ki:You've never cared about me my whole life, and now you're trying to act the big brother part?
Ky:What did you just...
Ki:*gasp* SHUT UP *attacks him*
It immediately struck me as something that had a much deeper meaning, way more than her behaviour when Manami goes to the Kousakas later in the series
If there is something that to me works just fine are tsundere that have a good reason for acting like that.
