No amount of skill can adequately overcome the impossible odds of jamming in an entire 11 LN's into 11 episodes (No. 6), or adapting an entire manga into 12 episodes (Sakamichi no Apollon). Robotic;Notes is a VN, and that means it probably has a lot of content, so if that was only 11 episodes it would be dead on arrival.

Historically the best Noitamina shows are ones with multiple seasons (Nodame and H&C), or entirely original (Ano Hana, Tsuritama). Psycho Pass is original it seems, but then again its plot has a huge scope, and that takes more than 11-12 episodes to adequately explore IMO. Beyond the huge budget problems, scope is what killed shows like C. UN-GO to a lesser extent would have probably been even better with more episodes (It feels completely unfinished...).

I was just going to say the same thing! I was even going to mention No. 6. There are so many shows that could have benefited from more than 11/12 episodes. I'm really happy that PP is going to be two seasons. I'm getting more and more excited for this, right now it's on the top of my list for next season.

While I tend to concede that the skill of a writer can make a single-cour show work I'll have to agree with Reckoner there: in the cases of Sakamichi no Apollon and No. 6 there was a clear mistake in limiting them to such short number of episodes. Both were adaptations with rather interesting settings that were let down by a severe lack of time to develop the story. Single-cour works but the industry has been having significant problems telling more complex stories because of it being the most used format lately. Luckily the split-cour approach seems to be correcting the problem (mostly).

The problem with using Sakamichi as an example is that it was never going to get multiple cours, not in a million years. MAPPA knew it would lose money and got the show made anyway, purely for artistic reasons. There are many shows like that, where it's one cour or nothing.

I'm not quite sure how that is a "problem" with the example. The reasons for the business decision aren't the point, I'm fully aware of its lack of commercial appeal, but the fact that what they attempted to do with the manga adaption was not entirely feasible. They even had one of the best directors (Shiniciro Watanabe) in the industry, which prevented it from being a disaster, but in the end it was merely a very enjoyable but ultimately flawed classic.

Essentially all I'm saying is that I believe the vision would have been realized with more cours. Whether or not the industry is willing to allocate the necessary resources is well not our prerogative of course. They're going to minimize loss, that's a given. I'm just evaluating the work they're giving us and I think from a story standpoint, more time is all that was needed.

This is an artistic viewpoint, not a cynical businessman's viewpoint.

It's only matter of perspective, you can say "next year" if you want since Psycho Pass will end next year around March as well
considering they've decided to make it 2 cours -__-

I'm not really sure about that since even with low sales number, Blood-C still got a movie and I heard it was quite successful
and in term of sales with 7-10k, GC cannot be considered total failure and it was quite popular with audience as well
they might just decide to polish GC's potential with Urobuchi Gen's story and Amano's design
not to mention that the hype for PP now remind me a lot of Hype for GC last year, if it's not even more
let's just hope they won't end up the same

well either it will turn out good or bad, we can see the result just in a few weeks

This kinda worries me, the females are unattractive and it's full of bishies...
Plus Production IG has been falling lately, even if Gen is here to the rescue.

Noitamina is not the perfect timeslot for this kind of series, so as Robotic;Notes...
Plus, two-cours is also not good for them, Remember what happened with G;C(PROD. IG ALSO) and shiki...

Still, I salute them for experimenting...

We obviously don't have the same taste

The female designs are among my favorites I've seen in a while.

The reason GC sucked was the writer. As far as animation goes, it was great, so I wouldn't go all over Production I.G on this one.

Sir correct me if I'm wrong but Nodame Cantabile and Honey and clover's first seasons were respectively 2-cours as well, and that didn't hinder them in any way ...

The ending theme is "Namae no nai Kaibutsu" (Monster without a name) by EGOIST.

That was way back when noitaminA has when their target audience was older and ones who love josei and shoujo. I think the noitaminas fall started when aniplex began to buy part of the timeslot

Urobuchi is a VN writer, he can write long (and by this I mean LONG) plots just fine. In any case, I doubt it will be worse than the latest I.G "serious" shows, the director and writer are talented enough to make it work.

oh, 'cause they don't anymore? Oh, I'm really sorry I didn't know things that last happened this season and the past spring season count as "way back when" ...
So please explain yourself better, I'm interested. What kind of timeslot correspond better to this kind of series ... and what so you mean by this "kind of series" anyway.
