Of course, in the YAMATO: 2199 Universe, there is no FTL before contact with Iscandar.

I've always thought that was rather silly on the part of the original series.
If the Earth lacked a viable FTL drive, then travel to Pluto or any of the outer planets would take months. Gamilas would have easily outmaneuvered the Earth fleet and conquered Earth before 2199.

Hopefully, the new series incorporates some primitive Earth built FTL that is as Ithekro and Roger Rambo are speculating.
Say a x10 light speed drive.
Naturally this would still be nothing compared to what Gamilas has, and completely primitive next to Iscandar's Wave Motion engine, but still a workable warp/hyperspace drive system.

The Iscandarian ship in the first episode is still faster than a 10 times light drive ship. Nepturn to Mars in ten minutes is around 25 times lightspeed. Interstellar Speeds.

The other instance would be the White Comet Empire. It goes from outside the Milky Way Galaxy to Earth, while being observed the entire way, without warping in the conventional Wave Motion Engine sense. Only once it is in the Solar System does it do a space warp for tactical purposes. At Telezart, the Comet is outrunning Yamato in normal space and Yamato cannot outrun it (nor can they warp for reasons of too much debris). The Comet of course has not worry about debris since they probably use it as fuel. But in the aftermath, Yamato does a string of dangerously long ranged warps to keep ahead of the White Comet and barely make it back to Earth ahead of them. The Comet still has not been warping from Earth observations.

Either they will fix that if they get to A Yamato 2201-ish story, or they will use some other form of FTL travel system for the Comet Empire and perhaps its ships (I don't remember any Comet ships warping every even though they manage to get around from planet to planet just fine).

I pointed out the Earth pioneer ship from Yamato III because that has been a ponderance for a while if the timeline was 2003. Even if it was 2205 it would be weird to have a lone civilian ship with a Wave Motion Engine leave that soon after Yamato returned to Earth in 2200. The design, by pure coincidance has features that could be considered similar to the presently proposed warp drive ship with the ring and body shape. More advanced mind you (the ring would be around the ship normally), but it is something for the creative team to ponder now that science is making it something less than impossible to achieve FTL travel with something less than a wave motion engine.

Though we don't quite know the limitations of the Wave Motion Engines. How safe are they for intrasystem jumps (like Mars to Jupiter)? How long does it take a Gamilas ship between jumps? They likely don't have any other kind of FTL drives for in system up, as the wave motion engines seem to be able to be used from AU distances to many light years away in a single jump (range limits not year deturmined). Just they seem stuck at sublight for most of the time.

I am noticing that there is a lot of internal design work in the ship Yamato. A lot of stuff with its name on it. Designs for patches and other things. Even what looks like woodwork or metal lettering and even a half model of the ship in the messhall.

That's a lot of stuff to have done for a ship built in a year with a new name (Project Izumo stuff might be around in places).

Anyone know where we can find the ep7 preview aside from the Bandai channel?

Spoiler for spoilers:

.....Makoto Harada dressed as a maid for the party?! That's DEFINITELY Sexual harassment! If they all survive to get back to earth, they'll get sued!

...oh wait, she was calmed down by Saburo cosplaying as a monk. (more cosplay at about 7:26...running past our mopey orange shirt).

(It seems they're definitely trying to retain SOME campy fan-service, but it mostly seems to be coming from nurse babe).

Makoto was tricked by Ota who told her it was a costume party. Notice him sneaking out of the room witha massive grin in his face before she can spot him. As for Kato, i don't know wether that is cosplay or if it ties in to him being part of a monk clan. From Ito's behavior it seems he and Kaoru have some history. That doesn't reduce the amount of creepiness coming from him, he does literally look like a snake there. XD

That or he has something on her. The trouble with not quitr understanding a language enough is not knowing the finer points when things go dialogue heavy. We can see Niimi is doing some sort of study on the habitable panets around Gliese 581. Itou points out something about it after being brushed off. After his smugness leaves, Niimi seems off. We then see her mug is for Project Izumo, Yamato's predicessor. She was on staff for that. The escape ship project.

Unless it is just background character info, you don't put stuff like that out their unless you plan to use it later in the story.

Massive update at yamato2199.net

For starters the Gamilas pilot girl gets her file. Note to the production staff: CHECK THE MEANING OF THE NAMES IN OTHER LANGUAGES!!! For the sake of giving the poor girl some dignity i'll call her Meruda Deishi

http://yamato2199.net/img/character/chara_img_merda.jpg

Also, files for her fighter (in red) and a standard color variant, as well as the Meltoria class cruiser

http://yamato2199.net/mecha/gamirasu_air04b.html

http://yamato2199.net/mecha/gamirasu_sn06.html

Also, the story pages got some images wich confirm my recent theory that Meruda is featured in episode 10

Sexy...both the fighter and the pilot. Guess she's the squadron leader since typical Gamilas fighers are green. (is her's three times faster?)

The battlecruiser looks nice. 330mm main guns with barrels in front, 280mm guns with barrels on the sides and 280mm guns without barrels on the bottom and rear, plus 6 missile tubes. 283 meters long is within the range I was expecting. Bigger than the heavy cruiser but smaller than the battleship.

I see Yamato likely sees the Meltoria-class ship off honorably give the salute image from the bridge, and them looking off to the portside. Possible future ally?

Also I get the feeling Schulz and company are going to die in episode 8. Maybe from a backfire of Dessler's metal eating black cloud. Just their is a white (angelic) background for an image of Hilde and her mother with Hilde's arms wide open like she's welcoming him home. Foreshadowing from a production still.

Anyway as for the trailer, they're really pushing Yamamoto/Kodai/Mori love triangle. Yamamoto's crush is really one sided from the look of things.

Really unfortunate naming there. XD Iwas staring at the screen for a few minutes when i saw it. Phonetically speaking it can be Meruda, wich looses the unfortunate meaning but the english written name on the URL pretty much spells it out.

As for Yamamoto's crush, we know who Kodai will end up with (or do we?) but from what we've seen and Enomoto's remarks at Enceladus, Kodai is pretty much clueless in what concerns the fairer sex. XD

New theory about episode 10. We've been assuming that blonde Gamilan holding a gun in the trailer was the captain of the Meltoria traped with the Yamato in the rift. There is a photo of a Zaltzian officer in the episode page. Maybe that guy is the captain and the blonde guy is an officer that disagrees with cohoperating with the Yamato to get out of the rift. That wouldmake more sense as the Zaltzians are an enslaved people, therefore more whiling to collaborate with the Terons. It would also be more probable to have the crew salute him than an actual Gamilan. Just a thought, though.
