Project Eternity

I'm quite excited about this as they say they're doing it in the style of the infinity engine games, and I also have a feeling that a lot of Obsidian's buggy or lackluster releases has been due to being held back by producers. Hopefully they'll produce something great with this chance.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Fallout: New Vegas was pretty much golden--most of the bugs were due to the use of Gamebryo, not the game itself (and FONV was far less buggy than FO3).

Alpha Protocol on the other hand...

I am really looking forward to this game now after seeing what type of art style they are going for.

It's released already, no interest at all for this game here? I can't wait to be home to play it, looks like a modernized BG1.

I don't remember what I said here or why my original message was deleted years ago. However, I backed this back when Project Eternity was still an active Kickstarter, and I've been waiting impatiently for the game to come out. Unfortunately, these days I also have a job and commitments in the evenings that prevent me from having the time to play something like this outside of weekends. Because you can guarantee that a game like this isn't just something you start up when you have a spare five minutes at the computer. It's more of a "clear my schedule for this weekend and cancel sleep and mealtimes: Pillars of Eternity is out."

Only played a few hours of this, so not much i can say about it except it's a bit of a slow starter compared to BG2 and PS:T. Also a lot if too much info dump on pointless characters (i think?). I gave up reading background info you get whenever you looked into the past of NPCs that doesn't seem to matter to the plot.

Other than that, it's very much modeled after those old Infinity Engine games of old. So it's worth trying out if you miss those games.

Playing this myself. While its sorta an older style in games. I sorta like it and seems more story driven than most games of today. The whole "watcher" makes me think of those anime/mangas with a main character who can see Youkai O_o

ps- Eders quite the comedian <.< Some gold lines he has to say <.<

Jazz the info dump characters that you are talking about are the 'gold' ones yeah? You can safely ignore them, they're 'kickstarter backer characters'. Game is def a slow burner at the start, but it gets really good and interesting about mid way in Act 2 I found.

Eder is great, I'm loving the female Dwarf ranger though. So damn awesome.

Yeah, i sorta heard that somewhere. I don't think that's a good way to do NPCs and kickstarter reward since I stop caring to read after awhile.

Kinda stopped playing after i gotten my stronghold, the game just didn't grab me as much Torment, Mask of Betrayer or BG2. I ll try to get back to it once i finish my current crusader king game.

I'm having a bit of trouble keeping engaged and I think it's partly the writing. While the game is pretty well-written, the style is dense. With lots of commas, and exposition, that breaks the narrative flow, as I attempt to exemplify here in this rather inexpert sentence of mine.

Also, it's a bit frustrating when you're just barely managing to hold your own against 5 enemies and somehow 6 more get alerted off-screen and come wipe you out of nowhere.

The writing style can be hard to read, it's not so bad when its narrated though. It's a definite throw back to older D&D stuff, BG particularly. But it's not a language style used commonly today... it reminds me kind of Shakespeare or something with it's over elaborate prose.

Hah, I had a fight like when I was looking for Maerwald. Oh, bandits no pro- OH SHIT SPIDERS FROM DOWNTOWN. 6v5 suddenly became 6v10. It was pretty epic, and felt quite good too me, kinda realistic. The sound of combat with the bandits alerted the spiders that came to investigate (not that is what actually happened, but still sounds cool since I don't think there is a 'sound' mechanic like that in the game).

I ment gold as in "full of class" banter

But yeah those gold NPCs I started giving up reading. I know they are backers and everything, but none of them links to other stories and it feels like a waste of time when each story is so short, Its like it gives you a beginning, and thats it.

The difficulty of this game is up and down. Even tho I am playing on normal, sometimes I think I win battles with ease, then you get gangbanged by a group of shades/phantoms/Cae Noasomething (those banshees) and its quite tough. I ended up doing the alternative route to the Master under the Cae Noa, but when I reloaded to see what other dialog options I got and led to a fight.. half my team was dead from its first breath attack O_o I am guessing the master is a bitch to fight >< And rightfully so, as when you learn what race it belongs too

The pathfinding in this game is pretty horrible too, its annoyed me plenty of times, as it makes my team not follow my orders time to time :/

Yeah difficulty is up and down, you can get really screwed on a bad dice roll. Def agree on pathfinding, I love bottlenecking foes in doorways for Aloths Fireball Barrage, so it is possible to work it in your favor. The 'original' games had the same issues though. Some of the gold characters have some seriously disturbing stories though... like seriously nightmare fuel of rape, murder and chicken loving.
