As of yet we still dont know much, althought the author in the afterword did say volume 11 will reveal the core of underworld and other interesting things. Afterwords are a good side note to read even though it may be useless but that is were the author can talk to us.

Progressive Vol 1 is still scheduled to come out next week along with NT5.

Also, I don't know if it's mentioned here yet, but Vanilla Sword Art Online volume 11 is set to come out in December.

LOVE the series! Just finished reading vol.8 Onward to acceleration in Aliciazation in the underworld!

Anyway, full sensory input and nerve acceleration aside, a lot of the concepts in SAO are highly applicable in RL. Anyone ever wondered why we don't have some sort of character import/export system in modern MMORPGs like they do with the [seed] based VRMMOs yet? I understand that the current problem is that the base programs are different and companies are always bickering about patent rights etc, but wouldn't the first company to implement such a system make a tremendous amount of money since it really adds to a game's replayability (or more like your character build up is endlessly replayable as long as you stay with the particular company's titles). eventually, smaller developers can buy into the basic platform or something. I mean, yeah, it may be less fun to start a new MMORPG with level caps already maxed, but modern games are shifting toward more skill based gameplay rather than repetitive button combo sequences anyway...

Closest I've ever heard of this coming to realization was arena net's Guild Wars 2 where it was originally rumored that all the original guild wars characters would be ported over... but the idea was eventually dropped due to issues with story continuation (WTF? I could care less if that lil bit of the chronology doesn't make sense...)

Porting? In a Captialist system? That's probably the one thing that I consider completely unbelievable in SAO :P

Seriously, it's not in any company's best interests to have someone's progress copied onto your service, nor have someone copy their progress out of your service, because in both cases you lose potential gameplay hours, and therefore opportunities to sell product (monthly fees, mictrotransactions, etc). There's the exception of console and old PC expansion packs, but those have been almost entirely replaced by just updating the one client.

Now that I've said that though, I really wish that a porting system existed, even if only within individual companies, and even if it was as "halfway" as the SAO - ALO port (skills carried over, items are corrupt). It would help remedy the issue of simultaneously having to start over and "destroying" any prior progress. Granted, that also means that individual-game loyalty would probably drop, but in return overall company retention rates would probably be better.

I just afraid that it will drag on consider we UW setting is similar to SAO and ALO which is medieval fantasy setting. it feel "boring" you can say

I hope the author focusing on real world part instead UW for next volume

I think the author apologized for that in the afterword, it had to do with something about the anime.

Kawahara said he will go back to his previous release pattern, that's what he promised to the readers.

In fact, Kawahara followed a release pattern from 2009 until last year: SAO (April, August, December) and AW (February, June, October)

But the AW release in December last year broke the release pattern.

Now SAO is back in December release, he's going back on track again.

The story was originally a web novel, and is already finished. You can find it in some places and read it if you know Japanese.

Now the author is republishing the whole thing in LN form. This edition is bound to change some things but is still the same story overall. Currently 10 volumes has been published and is still running.

volume 10 mostly is new story that were not in the web version, there's no guarantee Kawahara sensei won't do it again on future volumes.
