In my listing, she was probably my second to the last on my harem rankings. I realized that she's actually way more popular than I thought... in certain ways

Seriously, the one good Cecilia-centered story I've seen (official) was the special short that came with the DVDs. The girl really deserves some more character development (even if she's a bloody whiny Pom)...

and that is why all she needs is a reality check.

Really, I think Cecilia is in my top 3 now. She actually beats out Charlotte now. WTH just happened!?!?!?!?

This is actually why--even though Charu is still my favorite--I ended up writing a fic about Lingyin. There's got to be some sort of conflict going on to put the story into motion. Without it, it'd be all smooth, charming, and outright dull. Any conflict with regards to Charlotte would be all external (The Dunois family et al), while with most of the other girls it's conflict borne entirely out of their personalities.

That's true.

What I just really hate about what Izuru did with Charl is that hidden yandere. It's like... I don't know how to handle this box.

D:

That and the rabid fans who'll tear you limb from limb if you so much as hint at an imperfection in Charl.

More about this in a while, but not the whole world is razed to the ground, just big parts of it, and the developed countries are the ones still hanging on...

It's just you.

Cecilia appearing in Vandam is her pre-canon state, and I tried my best to portray what a young woman, slightly unnerved by her useless father and fresh out of working with Capt Price the SAS, is like when she ups and does her job without distraction. I did make her somewhat more friendly to "Charles", but that's just to line up with her later reaction within canon. I kept it as ambiguous as I could.

The Cecilia arc within SHOOTiNG ST@RS will come in Season 2, after I've derailed canon with the climax battle involving Rachel and the ghosts of her past. I haven't thought exactly what would happen, but after having her muck around as a smuck, I'm going to get Maximillan beat some sense into her. Or maybe have her befriended by Karon.

Either way, I feel that she's a character waiting to develop, and is worth attention herself.

She's a Yukana. That's a LOT of moe points...

I use Dark Charl merely as a comedy point here and there. Lingyi's the one with frank Yanderism, because she's the Death Metal Idol.

But once we're done with the giant Dunois arc, Char will be back to her F/Zero Saber-like depiction when she first appears in Vandam.

Canon derailment never felt so satisfying.

And don't you go around spreading such blasphemy.

I guess using Cecilia so much just made her likable. Especially my design of her second shift. It's possibly my favorite design thus far. Second comes Charlotte's second shift design.

Sooo, just got around to reading 'Soaring of the One-Eyed Dragon' ... I saw it before but I stopped when I realized that Ichika was suppose to be THE Masamune Date from Basara. The realization overloaded my RAM and I had to wait for an upgrade to continue reading.

Really, it's such a bad x-over but it works! It's the novelty of it, I'm sure. The sheer GAR of Basara seems to adequately make up for the distinct LACK thereof in IS. I am fond of the power duo of the Orimuras and all the fighting references. It's obvious the author has done a fair bit of research and put a lot of work into it.

Of course I liked it, its filled to the brim with Orimura-plications.

Because Cecilia actually got the short end of the stick when it come to IS.

> She is not good at close combat (neither was her IS specialized in that area).
> Blue Tear IS specialized in taking down multiple Enemies....
> Official IS battle is usually a head-on (no place to hide) one-on-one battle.
>She can't move while using her bits (in another word: sitting duck in a head-on battle)

> which means it is rather difficult for her and her IS to shine in those areas.
> Not to mention, she got a rival in Madoka who uses superior IS than her....

Also she is technically the weakest member of Ichika's Harem because She (almost) lost a battle to a beginner who just started using IS and don't even know the rules and can't be bother to read the thick manual.

===

That is why I usually let Cecilia do the curbstomping...

===

Edit:

There is a saying: too much good thing is bad.
(Gar-Archer kind of balance his Gar-ness out by being...... a very good house-husband when he is not fighting stuff)

Too much Gar will lead to testosterone poisoning which is bad.... Testosterone happened to be one of the many reason why males generally have shorter lifespan than female.

Also in IS setting, it kind of make males look bad.
It's like saying: Males are only good at violence and can't do anything else without resorting to fighting.

but... then again, who cares. Five second of Glory is better than nothing right?

I'll be damned but amongst the main harem, Charlotte is the last one for me.

Why? Well, dunno, exactly, but more or less I'm with Hawke. Charlotte is, simply a good as she is in early V2, if I rule out her yandere tendency. I don't think I need to add more spotlight than necessary, but as the result, she LOSES spotligth percentage altogether.

Yay for Draft of first part...

Quote:
A lone, blue colored F-4E soaring across the landscape slowly, as if it glides, opting for maximum TSFC. The 25 ton behemoth is a gas guzzler, and greatly outdated nowadays, but even then, there’s still many in service, just like many other out of same era.

20 km from its position, lightweight E-2 is patrolling around the southern region of North Point, apparently they contacted it first, meaning there’s really no closer airfield… or a functional one.

“[This is AWACS Sky Eye, please identify yourself]” a female voice was heard first, it’s soft, sounded like someone in late teens, and yet firm and proper as a soldier she is.

2nd Lieutenant Ichika Orimura, Callsign Mobius 1, replied with slight nonchalance even though his situation is far from good. “This is Mobius 1 of 118th Squadron, I’ve lost my entire flight and running out of fuel soon… ”
Understatement of the year indeed. He is pained and saddened, but he can’t show it, not here, not now.

“[Hang in there Mobius 1… Aikawa, would you please?]”

“[Affirmative, he’s from the old central air command in Waipolo]” came the other voice. Odd, because normally, only one voice can –or rather SHOULD- be heard, preventing confusion in the heat of battle. “[They decided to retreat last covering our tails]”

“[ID confirmed, we’ll guide you, Mobius 1]”

“Pardon if I may ask but you seem concerned, Sky Eye”

“[… told you the truth, we’re in danger of annihilated soon]” the original operator spoke again in monotonic, no-nonsense tone “[We identified a massive pack of bomber heading toward the new Central Air Command]”

“Who is the closest one to intercept?”

“[42th Reformed Tactical Flight Hanagumi…]”

“… ah right, I can see them on my radar too”

Indeed, they could even see a faint, black cloud composed of bombers of all sizes and types, as well as their escort fighters. However, the latter seems to be undermanned, there are mostly eight of them at best.

The sight of them still menacing as ever, they carry enough munitions to level a small city, did they really wanted to crush their enemies’ morale to the ground and then pound it some more?

“Odd, there’s too few of escort”

“[It’s the reason of why the bomber ran freely… we… don’t have enough maiden in the air that enemy simply countered our ambush]” a slight hesitation heard on her voice, Ichika could understand why. They’re just as desperate as he is, losing comrades one after another without having any chance to retaliate.

Stonehenge huh… Mobius 1 thought, the god forsaken salvation of humanity, now it’s under Erusian control and is the reason of why ISAF decided to retreat very quickly –and still suffer massive casualties.

Well, he really don’t want to lose the final chance to have a home to stay, death seems to be an acceptable risk. He is a soldier; his job is to protect his homeland and its people, no more and no less.

“Request permission to engage”

“Then what about your fuel supply?”

“Worry about that later, I have just enough to make interception run, and I’m carrying almost full combat load that should be ditched anyway if I want to stay longer” he said.

“Roger that… HQ has informed us that they need every single fighter they can use, you can proceed”

“Roger that Sky Eye, Mobius 1, engaging”

It’s monstrous engine ignited, though not entering afterburning state. The phantom sliced through air with no elegance, but still one splendid sight of its former glory as finely-aged multirole jet fighter, having numerous reputation and records in its name.

Their enemies as of now are no less than 15 bombers and eight escort, apparently, highly maneuverable Mirages.

“By the way, Mobius 1, be careful of ricocheting SAM”

“I’ll keep that in mind” he can be at ease at least, that he wasn’t alone. He has a guiding AWACS, and ground support. At the very least, betting on his last gallons of fuel are worth the effort.

Indeed, streaking brutally toward the black cloud is multiple surfaces to air missiles. The escorts acted as SEAD and quickly intercept these missiles, acting as bait. The sky is lit by munitions countermeasures, flares and chaff alike.

One of the lighter bombers struck right in the fuselage, ripped apart by resulting air turbulence. The rest quickly accelerate and separate from the heavier, propeller-driven bombers.

They become Mobius 1's sole prey

“Chance”

I can understand, Tales of Abyss and Monster Hunter also pull me off my computer

Quote:
“[Mobius 1, you’re too close]”

He knew that he could just point and shoot, after his targeting system get a lock. However, that won’t do, there will be too many survivor.

So, he opted to go close, really close.

As in, having a gun lock instead. Burst of medium caliber shell torn the left wing of one bomber as the formation spread out, it spun out of control and then explode violently as it touched the surface.

The second B-52 also bursting out as his Sparrow missile struck the tail proper, destabilizing its flight enough to force a crash landing (though the crew seems to survive).

Two of the escorting Mirages chose to go after him instead, and he instantly get into their lock.

“God damn” he pulled an Immelman Turn, even though he knew Mirages are more agile and soon followed, still tailing him with a lock. As they said, the lighter one won a knife fight. Most of the bulks of Erusian Air force are indeed, cheap, light fighter, minus some specialist team.

But it’s not his plan to fight them. His only target is the B-52s and them only. He took the third one successfully with a missile and shell burst. Of course, this piss off the escort team and they waste no further time, they slow down and push the button.

“[Warning: Missile]” sound echoed in his cockpit as a pair of short ranged missile tailed him with intention to kill; he clenched his teeth and burst out, taking the fourth bomber with a sidewinder and a sparrow. Missile still closing fast…

He delivers flares just when he’s closing the fifth one, so close he could feel the resonance of air distortion cause by the proximity. If he could hear the Erusian bomber crew talking, they probably scream at him as nuts.

But that ain’t his problem, the missile detonated right between him and the bomber damaged both of them. He’s more bothered on it, but at least he could still fly. The damage is significant, but still no critical.

And get another bomber kill; he could proudly call himself an ace now. He still has some bullets in his cannon, but he doubt he have the required skill… of his aircraft can pull any more crazy feat after such damage (it’s less agile to begin with), and if he has enough fuel to even LAND for that matter.

Knife fight is really out of option.

“Mobius 1 here, I’ll bail out soon”

The two Mirages scrambled apart and spun like mosquito, only to be taken out shortly after despite their effort. The reinforcement has come in form of three planes, and oddly, two of them are in underpowered F-5s. These are even smaller and lighter than Mirages, for crying out loud.

“You gotta be kidding me!” Ichika stated, almost wailing in fact. By the Belkan border, why they even BOTHER to send them?! F-5s in current service are supposed to be patrol/training aircraft!

Fortunately, they’re not half-bad, they shot down the other four escorts with moderate effort despite outnumbered. Ichika identified that those Tiger IIs are carrying modernized weaponry though, so they’re almost even. Besides, the flight lead use an F-16, and it claimed three kills out of six. Definitely an ace.

He also recognized the maneuver they use, even if imperfectly executed. After all, ace of aces like Demon Lord is one in a thousand…

“[Sky Eye here, they’ll guide you to a place where punching out is safe]”

“Thanks then”

The canopy is blown and a sudden rush of air made him choke a little, compiled with the high-g he experienced as his seat blown upward away from the falling plane, the behemoth struck a lifeless hill and explode.

He watched the four angels dancing in the sky as his fall slowed down by the opening parachute.
To Note: Knife fight is common term for dogfighting using autocannon/vulcan, since its an ancient doctrine these days, even though useful sometimes. (as in "Like bringing a knife to a gunfight")

Also, Ichika's callsign is not a squad name (and he is not a squad leader either), the one is indeed, 1 = Ichi

Zero, just a question? Have you read any books by Stephen Coonts? I think your description of air combat needs a bit of work. It's a little...wooden. Air combat is very tight and terse--a pilot isn't just flying his plane and shooting--he also has to watch his altitude, his teammates, et al.

No, seriously. Pick up some of the early books by Stephen Coonts (Flight of the Intruder, Final Flight, The Minotaur). Coonts was an A6 Intruder pilot in Vietnam and was a flight instructor---EG one of the best people to refer to when describing combat air piloting and expresisng that into words.

Recommendations:
Air combat - Stephen Coonts (Flight of the Intruder)
Infantry/Tank Warfare - Harold Coyle (Team Yankee)
Special Operations - Richard "Dick" Marcinko (Rogue Warrior series)
