I think Umika brainwashed herself and the others to be more immune to despair, the shock of Michiru turning into a witch must have been too much so they altered their memories to avoid going gun crazy like Mami did.

This explains how could they calously go after magical girls and seal them away, their moral values got toned down for their plans to move foward.

Maybe Kyuubei did something to them or something went wrong with Umika's mind control ability. So maybe the whole flashbacks that we saw during this story were all manipulated and false?

Kyubey wouldn't do something to them right in front of them, though it's most likely that Juubey being an artificial Incubator would be like trying to make a different version of Kyubey, though QB must have screwed something with Jubey..

Well, that probably makes sense that Kyuubey had actually contracted with the Pleaides (Mami being around always involves Kyuubey and contracts. ), though they probably forgot that Juubey had the ability to contract anyone else.

Well, at least he enjoyed the nice surplus of energy coming from the current situation with the Freezer.

I somewhat assume that they're going to end it off around 23. When's chapter 21 coming out?

21 would still involve the fight, though it's more based on explanations of the 'memory inconsistencies', the creation of Juubey and such.

22 would involve the fight, though Kazumi gets an upper hand until Umika/Kaoru become witches. Epic magic fighting though Kyubey would still be trolling.

23 would conclude everything- the end of Kazumi's life, Hijiri dying (or most likely turning into a witch): then the aftermath with Tachibana and Detective-san.. Maybe a sweet epilogue?

I know the new chapter is titled "Jubey", but that's all I've been able to find out.

Turns out that Jubey was the Pleaides' creation (I think this was obvious at a certain point). Nico fabricated an artificial incubator- which led to becoming Jubey that was under the Pleaides' controls.

That barrier thing above Asunaro City was a spell casted by Umika to make the Kyubey/Incubators imperceptible to the others, then make them remember Jubey- well, replaced Kyubey with Jubey in their memories.

Then they had to simply rely on Jubey to cleanse their Soul Gems instead of using Grief Seeds.. Pretty much screwed up some people.

Ok ch 21 is up at the usual place so...

Spoiler for Kaz 21:

Kyuubei appears and the pleadies don't recognize him at all, but he remembers all of them, Umika starts to remember and we get another flashback.
The flashback shows Kyuubei saying his famous speech "It is normal to call girls who will become witches Magical Girls", Umika ends up killing that Kyuubei and another one appears right off the bat (as usual) saying that humans really like to kill him (lol).

He then proceeds to explain that he can't be killed because Incubators are part of a single entity so they have many spares for the girls to kill (I think he said that in Madoka also). Then we see Nico taking the former Kyuubei's body and experiment to create Jyuubei.

Then Umika tells Kyuubei they don't need him anymore because of Jyuubei and casts a spell in the city to make Kyuubei undetectable by people (including them) replace their memories of Kyuubei with Jyuubey and the memories that they casted that spell.

After the flashback, Kyuubei says that Umika's idea was actually really smart, but the wrong part was using the body of the Incubator as a method to clean their Soul Gems. So basically, what Jyuubei did, was just to polish them on the outside, nothing more (this is why Nico and the other girls turned into witches even though their Soul Gems were "clean"), and Kyuubei remarks that is foolish to try and clean Soul Gems without a Grief Seed (it is impossible).

In the meanwhile, "Fake Nico" looks really tired and just observing what happens, also Kaoru and Umika's soul gems begin to crack, so Kazumi does Limit Esterni and kills the Soujo's witch (the dog) but it doesnt drop a Grief Seed (WTF!!???), Kyuubei then says not all witches drop grief seeds (bastard) and that those 2 girls will soon become witches, the chapter ends with Kazumi crying over Umika and Kaoru.

Maybe sometimes winning attacks will eradicate the Grief Seed (I mean, if you go OP attacks...right?) ...that's my theory why some witches just don't give a damn Grief Seed... of course... there's the familiars turning witches but has no Grief Seed thingy...

iirc, most of the real witches in this manga were killed with OP attacks, not only Limit Esterni, but also with a combination of many attacks. Maybe Kyuubei is being a dick and forgot to mention that detail

The thing is... we don't know how "brittle" or hard Grief Seeds are. Well, I *do* know that it is at the very least 10 meters shock proof.

uhmm we don't really know, but this is similar to Madoka's last episodes where everything goes to hell before we get a bittersweet ending. I dont think we can expect a happy ending to this story either.

Shortly after the Final Confrontation (whatever it is) a calendar is shown. The date is April 15th, then cut to Madoka making her final wish in Mitakihara. Then everything dissolves in white...

I'm sure they could kill themselves or something to prevent witch transformation, but I doubt there's anything they could do to truly save their lives, unless Madoka happens to make her wish and becomes a god around the same time.

It's possible, but it depends on the timeline. All we know is that it happens during a time when Mami is still alive, and not after Madoka's wish.

The thing about Kazumi is that she's an impossible existence. She's a Witch who is also a Magical Girl, who used to be (and still is, basically) Michiru, a human. Jyubey referred to her powers as Sacrilege, but corrected himself and used the word Destruction. The last time an Incubator used the word Sacrilege, the universe was rewritten.

I won't place bets on who will ultimately make it out alive, but I'm not entirely convinced this will end as a full blown tragedy either.

Wild speculation: Kazumi, as a sentient witch, can just absorb grief with no ill effects whatsoever. Everyone fears she'll turn into a witch and she's not afraid to sacrifice herself for her friends...but even when she transforms she keeps her sanity because she's not ACTUALLY in despair.
