What book(s) have you read recently?

Le rouge et le noir by Stendhal and My Àntonia by Willa Sibert Cather. Neither were bad read but Stendhal's work was kind of a left down, y expectation were probably too high.

I just finished World War I by S.L.A. Marshall a couple nights ago. It was generally good, but I felt that there was a little bit too much in the way of personal opinions by Marshall disguised as facts or categorical statements.

I'm reading Star Wars: Choices of One by Timothy Zahn now.

Mary Shelley's Frankeinstein and Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels are my latest reads. I'm looking at finishing HG Wells' The Time Machine soon.

I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson and started its sequel The Girl Who Played with Fire. Both are extremely good and I highly recommend them. However, both have mentions and sometimes graphic details/scenes about sexual assault (ie rape) and if it is a sensitive subject to you or something you would not want to read about, then these two, plus the third, are not the books for you. If you can overlook that part, these books are very interesting and hard to put down. You will especially like them if you are fond of mysteries.

I finally got into the Ender's Game universe. Finished Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and Ender's Shadow over the last 3 weeks. Now I am moving to Xenocide. The books that I finished are all very good reads. Ender's Game and Shadow are easier read and perhaps more enjoyable, but Speaker for the Dead is the best of them all.

Don't read the introduction in Speaker of the Dead. It's a trap.

I received Ender's Game from my mother's best friend for my 8th birthday. It changed my life, and started me on my life-long love affair with sci-fi. I went from reading things by Beverly Cleary, to devouring Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, etc. Luckily, we had an amazing used book store near my childhood house, which sold paperbacks for 10 cents/piece, which for my paltry allowance ($10/month lol) in those days, was like heaven.

I think if I ever go crazy and have kids, I'll skip the Dr. Seuss, the Boxcar Children, etc, and teach them to read straight from sci-fi.

As for my last read, I just finished reading Sharps, by K. J. Parker. Not sure how I overlooked this author. Planning on picking up his Fencer Trilogy next.

It was sad when Prim died, but the fact that Katniss was able to move on with her life and find some happiness made it satisfying for me. She could've rejected both Peeta and Gale and lived her life in isolation like Haymitch and turned to a life of alcoholism, but she decided to move forward. Also, Peeta was able to move forward as well despite the Capitol's hijacking. The ending lines of Katniss explaining her rationale as to why she chose Peeta was very well written.

Finished H.G. Wells' The Time Machine in an hour. It's got some interesting parallels to Gulliver's Travels and is set in a comparatively more modern universe

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami.

I would call this a typical Murakami novel. Plenty of genuinely wise, poignant stuff wrapped in an easy to read, Lynchian-mindfuck. If I wasn't hardened by the internet, weird animes and other Murakami works, maybe I would find the plot too much to handle.

In any case, I'm glad I read it and will remember several sentences, characters (Nakata) and weird but kakkoii situations fondly.

They were EXCELLENT. So awesome. I LOVED them. The third book was kind of slow-going though. Despite the graphicness of it all, I loved those books so much.

I finished Hidden (House of Night #9) by P.C. and Kristen Cast, now reading Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, for school reading Fresh Air Fiend by Paul Theroux and New and Selected Poems by Mary Oliver.

I finished One of the books in the Blood Coven Series by Mari Mancussi which is Soul Bound. Mancussi never fails to suck me into a book and keep me on the edge of my seat.

The next one is The Slayer Chronicles. One of the characters of The Chronicles Of Vladimir Tod gets his side of the story told. These two books are written by Heather Brewer. She really made me love the books and the characters <3

The last one I read was "Un Lun Dun" by China Miéville. I wish there will be anime for that book. Another one was "Woman in the Dunes" by Kobo Abe. Provocative and interesting book.
