On my Classic play I didn't even have to do this; instead I Mind Control a convenient Muton or Heavy Floater, then use them as a scout or an extra meatbag. You get their weapons after their former allies then focus all their anger on them.

Incidentally, this was ALSO the reason why, by the end of September 2016 in that playthrough, I had about 145 Heavy Plasma. Muton Elite make GREAT extra help...

Too bad you can't do anything with that many heavy plasma. Even with the most unbalanced team of nothing but heavies, you're still only going to be able to use 6 heavy plasma.

Six Colonel Heavies decked out in Ghost Armor, Blaster Launchers, Shredder Rockets, Extra Rockets, and Extra Grenades is basically the stuff of Doctor Vahlen's nightmares.

"Noooo! Don't blow it up!"
*BOOM*

"Wall? *LOL* What wall?"

For a more balanced Heavy team, have two of them specced in Suppression & Mayhem to pin down the aliens while your Rocketeers rock their world.

The grappling hooks makes it easy for them to gain elevation bonuses to their aim.

Can't you sell them? Not like I paid attention to the Gray market.

You can only sell Alien parts in Gray Market. Weapons/Armor are 'sold' through Country Requests.

But yeah, I'm wrong on Snap Shot in Impossible. Aparrently, I missed the Plasma Pistol upgrade because I didn't capture a Sectoid. Which is a shame, because I found out with my next playthrough that with it, Pistol III, and Gunslinger, a sniper can do as much damage as a plasma rifle. And losing Damn Good Ground isn't ground breaking, as with scope and sniper high ACC I barely miss it. But now I can use snipers in close combat if need be? Hells yeah.

Support, I find that psionics aren't really that threatening (at least in comparison to others), so Dense Smoke is better. Also, I find it's best to be proactive and heal your guys before they die. And sometimes, Reviving someone just gets them killed the following turn, so Rifle Suppression is more practical. Sure suppressing someone probably means you're gonna eat a grenade to the face, but 5 damage is better than taking 7 or 9.

Heavy, I tried the Suppression route. It's lolsy when you have 3 Heavies with Suppression/Danger Zone/Mayhem (like always do guaranteed damage and make them not shoot at you? total lockdown there XD), but before getting Mayhem/Heavy Plasma I find you lack firepower because no second rocket and no scope (as you'd be carrying a grenade instead). I personally prefer just to blow them up with Shredder Rocket/Danger Zone/Rocketeer, and have a scope to counteract the piss poor aim of the heavies.

Assault, I try not to use stealth cheese anymore and just use him as a spotter/scout (no fun when you have 4-5 Assaults just run and gunning every wave ). So I go all defensive on this guy.

So my builds generally go now as...
Snipers - Squadsight/Gunslinger/Disabling Shot/Opportunist/Double Tap
Support - Sprinter/Field Medic/Rifle Suppression/Dense Smoke/Savior
Heavy - Bullet Swarm/Shredder Rocket/Heat Ammo/Danger Zone/Rocketeer
Assault - Tactical Sense/Lightning Reflexes/Rapid Fire/Close Quarter Specialist/Resilience

Not a big fan of the explosives so I go the suppression route.

Though I find the assault class is quite useful with the Alloy Cannon. With the Archangel (in the air) plus the scope it allows the Alloy Cannon to at least be used mid-range which is more than enough. Plus in the event that the enemy gets too close the Alloy Cannon would do even more damage.

On that matter I'm a little confused about the Etherals.

Exactly what triggers their reflective shields?

Anyone had or use the Psionic soldiers Telekinetic Field ability? Is it good? Does it reflect attacks similiar to the Ethereal's ability?

Not really.

It's like some weird warp field where the second the shots enter it it'll go off on a tangent.

If your in a pickle and surrounded by many enemies then it's a good idea to use the field so long as you have distance as all the shots fired from the enemy will bend and hit somewhere else.

In terms of function, all Telekinetic Field does is increase your Soldier's Defense by 40, making it like Full Cover or Dense Smoke. If an enemy shoots at you from outside the field though, the shots bend so they don't hit you, which is quite the awesome thing to see.

This game is way too addictive...

I must be getting close to the end now after I've encountered the Ethereal species?

Spoiler for size:

You know you are near the end if you've downed a battleship and unlocked the power of the homing rocket. And that's when you join us in putting multiple Heavies in the squad and blow everything up, like that sectopod in your pic.

Never liked the idea of having a squad unbalanced in one soldier class' direction. Besides, Snipers take care of Sectopods too easily in my experience.

Also, said homing rocket has a proper name: Blaster Bomb.

VICTORY

It wasn't my best game (didn't plant base synergies well, mis-planned funding), lost India, lost Mexico. Last battle was some what anti-climatic, as my sniper (the one who was Galloed) double tap the Uber Ethereal and my backup sniper finished the boss off.

So glad I bankrupted my organization and brought 5 set of Titan armor and 1 Psy Armor, 2 Plasma sniper rifle for the win.

Also, world average for Grey Market is 110,000 credit? O_o I barely sold like...1200 worth.

I just got to play this game and it is hard, even in easiest difficulty. Only got 3-4 months and some countries already abandoned me as their panic level went too high. Maybe I was too preoccupied with research and building base and I forgot to buy weapons and armor for my soldiers.

There are two main weakness of this game. First you cannot assign rookies classes you wanted and instead AI choose it for you. In one mission I got three snipers at the end of a mission and no support and assault ones. It just happened by random. Second this game discourage level grinding. The only way to level up rookies for me is bring them at the front which they will be vulnerable to enemy and hope to shoot them back.

Despite its flaws I'm in love with this game. How many TBS games that aren't Nippon-Ichi out there?
