I think it's because he's trying to enjoy the roleplay of being the all-powerful Fairy King (just like he wanted Asuna to play her role as well). I think he doesn't care about "convenience", he cares about looking his part when he's in the game. Other than acting important ("I'm the King!"), I'm not sure if he really cares about ALO "gameplay".

The main reason for this is that it's very hard to say what points may be revealed in the future, so people should have the choice if they want to read the novel information.

The oscillating nature of the episode was a nice touch.

Man, Alne and Yggdrasil make me really want to play a high fantasy MMO, or any MMO, really.. :<

Eh, tentacle scenes don't bother me as much after a certain scene in a certain non-hentai work of fiction. Asuna biting one of its tentacles was even somewhat funny to me..
