Yea, it was really underwhelming though tbh. My post makes it sound pretty grandiose, but the setup was really weak and devoid of drama. "Rushed" comes to mind again.

By the way, if you really like Tanakas comedy, I can recommend Jinrui wa Suitaishimashita. It is a light novel by Tanaka, I haven't read it, but judging by the anime it's pretty hilarious. Very clever and sometimes random. Starring a very intelligent but also somewhat cynical heroine.

Come to think of it, Kashima Sakura being happy means a whole lot of Rewrite's conflict is gone. There might be outlying amoral people (like Brenda) but without her, much of Gaia's present-day machinations in Kazamatsuri wouldn't have borne fruit.

On the other hand, I see the existence of Kashima as a necessary one which Kagari has included as a necessary existence in the Plan, much like Kotarou. In order for humanity to be saved, someone has to be the scapegoat to engineer the spearheading of Gaia's goals.

OR humanity needed to be saved because of her in the first place - and thus we have the dilemma of the Chicken or the Egg.

I haven't finished Rewrite Quest. Since the only thing left in collection is one CG and one movie that doesn't interest me. I will try put my effort later.

Finally finished reading Rewrite! (is anyone still reading this thread?)
It took a while for the ending to make sense to me, I think I've got most of the overarching plot down, but there are still things that bug me, mostly on Moon and Terra, please bear with me.

Spoiler for All of Rewrite:

So we have Common route + Heroine routes as the 'bad ends': theories made by Moon-Kagari to see if Earth had still a chance to survive. Let's call this part 'theory'.
After the five routes, all of the theory-Kotarous get condensed in one single Moon-Kotarou being that meets Moon-Kagari on the Moon. He can't understand her, so he basically rewrites himself into God, losing his individuality, only to be brought back by Kagari herself. They work on the theory tree for aeons, until someday Kotarou writes 'let's meet again' on it and suddenly all makes sense. Kagari is trying to sum up that winning theory, but Kashima sends tons of monsters on the Moon to prevent that, because she's evil and doesn't want life to prevail. Questions time.

What Kashima was that? Theory-Kashima? Earth-Kashima? How could she know Kagari was on the Moon doing her thing? What about the time frame? How did she send mamono there? How could she sustain summoning all those mamono with just her lifeforce?

Kotarou calls 'fake' Kotori, Chihaya, Lucia, Shizuru, Akane, Yoshino & Gang and Sakuya for backup. Soon, Real-Sakuya joins them. They fight to the death, everyone gets wiped out, Sakuya for good this time.

How could Real-Sakuya know what was happening? Again, what about the time frame? It seems millennia have passed while researching that theory, so wth?

Last drops of Moon lifeforce go to Earth to try one last time to set things right. Terra route happens, Kotarou joins Guardian, then betrays them, then joins Gaia, then betrays them too, then he and Earth-Kagari succeed in preventing Apocalypse and become a tree. Canoe ensues.

What's the deal with 'creating good memories'? How does stopping a war between Guardian and Martel/Gaia by killing yet more people and betraying everyone create 'good memories'?
Why did Kotarou have to kill Esaka?
At the end Kotarou becomes like Sakuya. Why don't the girls recognize him? Kotori and Akane should, at least.
Are Midou, Tenjin and Tenma the kids Kotarou saved along with Jasmine that we see in the ending?

And, since the girls don't have tragic pasts anymore (well to an extent, Shizuru still got her house burned down, Kotori's parents still died, etc.)

Doesn't the ending imply that the hardships the Occult Club went through in the other routes, or theories, were for nothing?

That's what bugs me the most about the ending (beside the fact they can travel to Moon without wearing space suits or anything lol)
And about common route,

Did Imamiya, Nishikujou and Esaka just fake not knowing Kotarou in all the routes for the sake of his new life?

All in all this was a good journey, I hope to see it animated soon

It should be noted that Kotarou was also one of the demons sent to Moon phase, but he forgot his purpose of assassinating the Kagari there.

Kashima seems like a sinister, very powerful villain to have been able to reach out from one of the "timelines" to assault the very Moon itself.

It is implied that out of all the beings summoned there, only Sakuya is the "real" Sakuya summoned directly from the heroine route timelines. That is why his death here is "final" in a sense - though Sakuya being Sakuya he was able to ride the Aurora trails down to the rejuvenated Earth to sleep for eons just to wait for Kotarou in Terra

Part of being the being that is Kagari is that it collects all of the memories of sentient beings on the planet. The more negative the memory, the more the planets is led to think that Ruin is necessary. A "good memory" is thus supposedly needed so that she does not go into this phase - and in Terra, there are moments where this very nearly comes to pass. Bad memories come from the secret war between Gaia and Guardian, of which there are many examples in the heroine routes and Terra: Lucia, Akane, Jasmine- heck all of the heroines are shown to have been adversely affected by the constant war. I believe what Kotarou was thus looking for here was the end, which justifies his means.

Because Esaka was also about to kill him; having discovered Kotarou's betrayal firsthand. At the time, his priority was Kagari.

Realistically, only Kotori, Akane and Shizuru could've remembered him - if they still could, considering the trauma they experienced as children. Then again, Guardian Kotarou could also have been using his disguise at the time.

For the next part, yes, I wrote about it in here on one of the 2011 July posts. It is implied that the heroine routes did indeed happen, and that Terra's outcome is some sort of "Omega route", a new timeline so to speak that directly follows from before. However, this is just my theory and my interpretation. Others feel that it's a loop, and have thus posted at length in these very pages. You can find them, and mine, to look at our points of view. This is also why I have a negative view of the ending - since I interpret it that way, I feel like all the pain and suffering endured had happened, but as they are millions of years in the past, are inconsequential to the greater good. Which to me seems a little off-putting.
For the last one, yes, because that's what's required of Guardian. Recall their treatment of Nagai in Terra.

Final Addendum: It's nice to see some dialogue here, after the Harvest Festa and supposed partial translation I was partly hoping for more than what came about - in particular the fandisc, but apparently only a few people've read it yet. So this helps in a way.

Ok, the English Patch for the heroine routes have been released on Amaterasu.

I finished Kotori's route and wow.... that ending is probably one of the most depressing key endings that I have come across. I have a bad feeling that the rest of the Rewrite's heroine routes will have these endings.

That part when Kotori was desperately trying to get Kotarou to a hospital was heart-wrenching. I could really relate to Kotori's situation where she was bound to protect the Key. Her breakdowns and mental exhaustion is enough to tell me that she's suffering so much from making a contract with something that she's not sure of. I'm wondering if the Key, aka Kagari, is an evil thing. (Although I highly doubt this as she's the main heroine for Rewrite) Her laughing and singing is just... really sets an ominous tone to her. I'm surprised that Kotarou was a familiar of Kotori. Although I knew that earlier, it was very shocking when he was mostly likely going to die if the Key was to be killed.

I will read Chihaya's route next.

What the hell was up with the amnesia stuff? I get that Kotarou tends to forget/overlook things easily because of past head trauma or whatever but that came out of nowhere and made absolutely no sense. Is it justified in a later route or is it just... there?
He also seemed to have trouble recognizing Chibimoth as a mammoth even though he was perfectly capable of making that connection earlier in the Common Route... really, the game is full of stuff like this.

It doesn't really hurt it in the long run, I guess, but it's clear that the script lacked any sort of QC entirely... doesn't exactly make me excited to play Chihaya and Shizuru's routes which are supposedly EXTREMELY terrible in that regard.

Yes, the amnesia thing is justified and comes back later. You won't understand right now with just this partial patch, but there is some subtle hints in the other routes. For the Chibimoth thing, I believe Kotori was using some of her powers to make Kotarou stop thinking further about the mammoth issue.

Edit: If you want a more satisfying feeling to Kotori's route, I guess you have to wait until Harvest Festa is translated since people feel that Romeo worked really hard to write a good conclusion for Kotori.

As for the issue on the quality of Chihaya's and Shizuru's route, Yuto Tonokawa has some problems in writing a good flow and theme to the story. When compared to writers like Romeo and Ryukishi07, I guess he still lacks the experience. This is more obvious in Shizuru's route, but I heard some people love Chihaya's route for the action. That's the problem when you have three writers doing whatever they want. I believe QC in Rewrite was Jun Maeda, so blame him if you find any errors. Rewrite is still good, but it is recommended that readers should NOT think Rewrite is a Jun Maeda story (makes you cry) or an action story (like in Chihaya's route). Just read it indifferently.

Here are the two recommended reading orders for those who want it:
Kotori -> Chihaya -> Shizuru -> Lucia -> Akane
or
Kotori -> Chihaya -> Lucia -> Shizuru -> Akane

That "final battle"? I have a save file on that scene, so I didn't really notice it was only viewable once. Makes me relieved in a way...

If it is intended, maybe it has something to do with hidden flags or something. But I could swear I saw that scene with the dinosaur in the first Mappie segment over and over from a fresh start.
