I was recently thinking of previous shows, specifically that example, with regards to this. Only they know why they presented that romance in that manner.

That being said, we did get three in Kanon, although two were on the cheek/forehead.

Yes, and how many people like this about KyoAni? I'm glad that KyoAni doesn't go to certain extremes in one way, but going to the opposite extreme isn't much better.

If romance is going to be a major part of your show, it doesn't hurt to have a simple kiss, imo.

But there was a kiss in the end of first season. At least not worser than in Kanon if I'm not mistaken.

The clannad case is a bit special imho. They always portrayed that romance as something very innocent and heartwarming. It wasn't so much of a romance story as it was a story about families and the ties that bind them. In that context a kiss wouldn't be out of place yes but it isn't exactly something urgent and necessary.

On Chuunibyou on the other hand I wouldn't be surprised to find one if it weren't for KyoAni handling this. The mood of the stories are completely different.

There's an interview with Supervisor Ishihara in the latest spoon magazine. In it, he's asked about the possibility of a second season given the popularity of the series. His response: "Please continue to support us." A lot of Japanese fans are calling it a potential second season "flag." Given how invested he was in the series and how well it is selling on BD/DVD (not to mention the increase in novel sales), it seems quite possible we could see a second season.

To be honest I had always thought the whole chuunibyou thing to be terribly overblown. Comedic, dramatic, and utter unrealistic. Then I recently found a journal/diary from ~middle school. Not even fantasy or anything, just my "normal" thoughts, and god did it make me want to seriously do the whole 'roll on floor screaming "embarrassingembarrassingembarrassing!"' thing. Instead I simply laughed and possibly cried. So there you go, totally not exaggerated.

Ah, to be young.
