SIM cards come in many sizes. They're actually pretty amazing little devices in terms of their ability to store information as well. It saddens me that I didn't get a lot of exposure to SIM cards back when I would occasionally sell phones for WalMart (I used to work in electronics there), but I did have a Verizon rep tell me a bit about them and how AT&T's SIM cards are supposed to be pretty advanced. You more phone savvy people can correct me if I'm wrong, but my basic understanding is that SIM cards on top of carrying data provide authentication and information required for connecting to, in this case, 3G and 4G networks of service providers. So plugging in a SIM card made for the purpose of allowing your device to connect to those networks would allow it to do so. Hopefully I'm not off base and that it also makes sense.

I've actually never heard of a laptop carrying a SIM card before until this question popped up, but it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I learned some very interesting stuff today about newer laptop technology! Thanks for that.

It would be a good idea to have a look at these PDF brochures by the ACCC and the ASIC:For the first document ("Debt collection guideline reprint 2010.pdf"), it might be worthwhile to look at page 17.
For the second document, I'd focus on page 13 onwards.

Of course, the debt collecting company is allowed to collect personal information to settle debts (and they are also obligated to keep the information they have secure and up-to-date), but whether or not you could initiate a litigation probably depends on how and where they collected this information (you may be able to pin on them the fact that they lied in regards to the address issue on the contract). It would be good to look at the National Privacy Principles.

For the record, my knowledge about these kinds of issues is limited to what is available out there on the Internet, and it would be a good idea to get a second opinion from a professional in law. Your first port of call would be Virgin, and if you don't get a satisfactory response, then it would be best to escalate the issue and bring to the attention of the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman.
Hey, thank for the detail post. Sent my friend the link to this forum so he can check out his option

While the port is disabled on your particular computer that sort of port isn't really uncommon on netbooks. It's meant to plug in a sim card for a 3G modem.

For those curious SIM cards are actually rather common outside of the US and are used to authenticate a user to the network. It allows you to detach the hardware (cellphone/modem) from the service provider (the telcos) giving you the hability to purchase the phone of your choice without having to consult with your network provider. In practice though most people buy phones locked to their providers rendering the ability rather moot.

I have been wondering, who is the loli hiding behind the warning sign in the spoiler tag button on the reply console?

That would be the one and only Rebecca Miyamoto (or nicknamed "Becky" by her students) of Pani Poni Dash!

Come to think of it I never wondered that question after all of these years. Is it sad that we've been here this long and only just now found out the mystery of the girl behind the spoiler tag?

Looking for a Japanese dictionary!

Hello! I'm interested in finding an English to Romaji dictionary so I can think of song lyrics in English and learn to sing them in Japanese.

I see a lot of dictionaries that have Japanese-English, Furigana(?) to English, and lots of other combinations buuuut I'm not interested in having a Kanji dictionary since my goal is the pronunciation and auditory aspect of the language.

Does anyone have suggestions where to look?

Online dictionaries work just as well, but I'd like something tangible to take around with me.

Thanks.

I'm wondering, what cities in the USA are doing the best economically at the moment? What are the boom-towns?

Question:

It can't be help that sometimes blackout comes in unexpected where we are happen to be using our computer without the battery. Now, after turning on back my computer.. I had an option to run it in "normal" or safe"... I'm used to run it in "normal" but last time I pressed "safe" and when I checked my program files, a new folder appeared " Boot Folder".... It didn't exist there, I know.. Could I delete it? Will it affect my computer?

Okay, it is a system folder that contains boot configuration.
Delete anything in it and chances that your os won't boot.
So better leave it alone.
