ATI Radeon problem
Hi. This is sort of an urgent problem.
The Radeon driver I'm currently using is X300/X550/X1050 series. Using for years already. Though recently, I'm getting an error where the screen freezes, and have to restart. Getting a message from windows that "this driver is for use on older version of windows". Tried going to ATI Radeon's site to download the latest driver. But before I could install it, windows gave a message that the driver I'm about to install might not be safe for Windows XP and could cripple the operating system. So I cancelled the installation Does anyone know a site where they give an updated driver that would not trigger a warning from Windows XP? Thanks a lot for the help.

Best bet is just go ahead and install the driver, as long as it's officially from ATI itself, and even if the driver installer doesn't have Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility marked in yet.

Yes, I'm sure it's ATI's website. Used the "detect and install" function. The site chose which driver is best to use as update. Not having Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility marked in is the reason I didn't proceed to installing. Might resort to installing the driver anyway if I don't find any other alternative. In any case, I have system restore turned on in case something goes wrong. @demonix How exactly do I make Windows update list that? EDIT: Figured it out, now attempting to find the correct Radeon driver using Windows Update. EDIT 2: Could it possibly be in Service Pack 3? I never installed SP3. EDIT 3: Checked the optional updates for hardware. Found none for Radeon driver in there.

Aah yes, something called ebaystatic. Banned it from the list.. weird cause I never had that before, could be because of an update edit: damn it also needed a block on something called superfish otherwise it keeps on coming back |

Download the Catalyst Control Center from AMD's website. When the popup box is pulled up, select your OS and video card (if it's one of the X3xx, X5xx or X1xxx series, they all use the same driver) and download the installer.
Run it and follow the instructions given.

Thanks. I already did just that. But windows gives warning that what I'm trying to install is unsafe because it might not be compatible with Windows. Anyway, problem is fixed now. It got cured after I downloaded a batch of updates from Microsoft website. Not sure which one of the updates solved the problem.
