^ This reminds me of the "laser guided homing bullets" that were making the news about a year ago. The bullets have fins like a jet/missile and can weave around obstacles, or in the picture above, do loops for style!

Eh. Beaming rounds past walls and to come in from any angle is more impressive.

Largest Structure in Universe Discovered:
"Astronomers have discovered the largest known structure in the universe, a clump of active galactic cores that stretches 4 billion light-years from end to end. The structure is a large quasar group (LQG), a collection of extremely luminous galactic nuclei powered by supermassive central black holes. This particular group is so large that it challenges modern cosmological theory, researchers said. "While it is difficult to fathom the scale of this LQG, we can say quite definitely it is the largest structure ever seen in the entire universe," lead author Roger Clowes, of the University of Central Lancashire in England, said in a statement. "This is hugely exciting, not least because it runs counter to our current understanding of the scale of the universe."" See: http://news.yahoo.com/largest-struct...093416167.html |

I wonder if it is possible that, since that is quite literally over 4 billon light years away, that we are seeing something we see "now" but closer, before it broke apart?
Like seeing something that is only say 100 million light years away that was part of LQG over 4 billion years ago?

Considering that the universe is expanding at FTL speed, chances are the object would be moving away from us at that speed instead. Also, if any object were moving towards us at that speed, they'd have one hell of a blue-shift. |

The fact that it defies current understanding of physics is amazing. There's clearly still quite a bit for us to figure out before we have a complete understanding of the dynamics of the universe. Light itself would take 4 billion years to travel the whole way through the cluster... light traveling at the fastest known speed in the universe, that is really mind-boggling...

The main problem with the structure is that the current models for "lumpy expansion" don't have any routes that describe a topographical structure at that scale. It implies there were much more serious deformities in the initial configuration than previously speculated.
Sooooo, everyone heads back to the simulation playground and tinkers with solutions for initial conditions that would evolve to have a universe with something like that in it.

If I am not wrong, they are using some sort of macgyvered version of the daruma-otoshi demolition method. I remember reading about that in a magazine a number of years ago; it is developed by a firm called Kojima (or Kajima) Corporation.
It is based on a children's game - google it.

A Year After SOPA: These Are the Next Five Battles For Internet Freedom:
"One year ago today, Internet users of all ages, races, and political stripes participated in the largest protest in Internet history, flooding Congress with millions of emails and phone calls to demand they drop the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)-a dangerous bill that would have allowed corporations and the govenrment to censor larger parts of the Web. But the price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and the fight for Internet freedom continues. Here's a look at the top five issues SOPA activists should focus on next:" See: http://gizmodo.com/5977375/a-year-af...ternet-freedom |

Hands On With Kim Dotcom’s New Mega: This Service Could Dismantle Copyright Forever:
"the service might look like it's just another online storage locker like Dropbox or Google Drive. (Update: It's live.) But it's way more than that. Mega is a weapon aimed straight at copyright rights holders. It's maybe the most private, invincible file-sharing service of all time." See: http://gizmodo.com/5977163/hands-on-...yright-forever |

Science proves the existence of God.
Either that or Homura gathered enough grief seeds to do a Solar reversal on QB's solar system.
