Man, calm down. He left his desktop to look like someone actually uses that computer, what's wrong with that?

Don't have to make your desktop unrealistically sterile for the thread if you don't want to. It gives a good, warm lived in look and feel. I like that.

Not cold and sterile like a brand new computer with no icons. And ts not like the icons cover any of the interesting part of the background anyway.

Did you know you're supposed to actually put icons for stuff you regularly access on the desktop? So that you can get to them quickly? That's the only use for a desktop, so why don't you just use a command line interface if you don't like putting icons on the desktop?

The icon aren't easily accessible if you have a window over your desktop.
No desktop != command line. As long as you have a window manager (floating or tilling).

Then why not close the windows to get to desktop? And this guy doesn't care about any graphics, he just wants words.

Masariro's art is just perfect for wallpapers. I used 4 of his pictures as wallpapers before.

If i really need more icon,i could just pin them on the taskbar,starting from windows 7.That why i love them.

Well,it is just my 2cent for the desktop,and there are good reason to clean up the desktop icon,at least to 1~5 icon on desktop:
-Lesser time to load the desktop
-More space for the wallpaper
-If you launch a windows program(or apps in those days) you won't see the wallpaper anyway,so why don't you make it better?

Around 10 icon with useful program are fine,but over 20 icon with leftover file isn't quite a good thing to have even it make thing simple to get.Leave those stuff in your folder please.

after using computer for long time. i found using start menu ans search is easier and faster than clicking the icon on desktop. especially if you multitask often.

Desktop is just like book cover really

I've literally spread everything out between them. I find that I use the quicklaunch for things like browsers, messaging programs, and Word. I use the start menu for specific apps like conversion programs, the good audio player, and other things. My desktop has mostly folders relating to entertainment, but also quick notes.

My main point back there was to tell a person you shouldn't say a person's desktop is bad and messy and should be cleaned up just because they actually have icons on it, like the desktop was designed to do (one reason). The icons were on there in a very neat and unobstructing way, so I got peeved at that person saying that. More power to you guys if you don't like to do that, but you not liking icons on desktop does not change the desktop's purpose for everyone.
