I notice some of the SA members were surprised that Junko could actually fight, but I don't find that too far-fetched since she's basically a psycho who's capable of just about anything.



I do wonder what's up with that Madarai dude, though.... we didn't get his SHSL title yet (but then again, we still don't know Ryouko's yet either, though personally I'm thinking that she's being set up to be a SHSL Mind Reader or something similar to that). I'm also wondering if we'll be introduced to any other cameos from the DR1 cast (or even DR2 for that matter, since Zero is supposed to be connected to the sequel, as well)......

In the trial for Ikusaba Mukuro's murder, either Naegi or Kirigiri is convicted and of course, sentenced to death.

However, later events reveal that the real Enoshima Junko was the one who killed Mukuro. Isn't it a contradiction for Monobear/Junko to execute Naegi or Kirigiri for Mukuro's death, especially when the story made a big deal about how Junko would stick to the rules?

My take on it was that Junko was getting desperate so she decided for at least just one occasion, "screw the rules". Remember, by that point of the game the remaining survivors were all ready to team up against her. So I guess she felt she had no choice but to falsely accuse someone of a murder, and since Naegi and Kirigiri were the ones who were closest to exposing the school's secrets, either of them would have been a perfect scapegoat. The very fact that she even halted the chapter 5 trial before Naegi even had a chance to clear himself clearly indicates how desperate she was, IMO.....

But going back to the sequel for now:

Wow, it's amazing how much more I respect the fat Togami compared to his old slimmer self. And hey, at least the game didn't waste any time with memory shenanigans this time around!

Huh. I suspect the translation is still at ch1, so going by it, I don't think it is wise to say that is his true face or whatev. In fact, I think I would do exactly what Hinata did if I were kidnapped (?) to unhabitated island by a suspicious pink fat bunny who claims she (it?) can use magic and proclaims everything should be lovey dovey, and almost everyone else are nuts

He is not as friendly as Naegi, I admit, but don't say that he is unfriendly when you haven't even gotten to, what 10% of the story

I have to admit, there is nothing in the game that actually put Junko in a position where she has to lie prior to chapter 5. In other times, she really have no need to lie since she has all baits to feed and manipulate the students.

Heck, in actuality she ACTUALLY lied in ch4, where the core of the mystery is fabricated by her and no one is a killer (unless you count Sakura-chan killing herself as her being the murderer...). While this is arguable, you can't rule it out that her manipulative personality also comes with her 'never lying' rule to be a fact.

In fact, if you think AE!Junko has exact same personality as Junko, you will see that she is not above lying (or at least gave no mention to her involvement) in the last of DR2 trial, where the incident happened in the novel was implied so damn heavily to be Junko's plan. She basically dumped responsibility fully to Kamukura Izuru in the trial, just to make the person (people who played know who I am talking about ) fell in utter despair.

^Well, thanks for your input nonetheless. And yeah, the DR2 translation is still at the first chapter (hasn't even reached the first murder yet). BTW, I recall the little DR2 conversation we had earlier this thread, and I think it's interesting to point out a little something (yep, slight plot spoilers ahead):

When you posted those character poll results, it showed that Nidai was the least popular of the DR2 characters (something that still disappoints me to this day ). However, our SHSL Manager friend (or Coach, as Oren translated his title) has actually proven to be much more well-received among the western fans, which brings a smile to my face! Now I wonder how much more popular he'll become once the story reaches that certain twist involving him.....?



....Though unsurprisingly, he's still trumped in popularity by Gundam and his hamsters (it's only natural! ). BTW, Sonia turned out to be pretty popular as well, which I found pretty interesting. But I wonder how much the fans' opinions will change once we delve deeper in the plot....?

Well... there is actually a reason why Hinata isn't as friendly as Naegi. It has to do with Hinata's (and the rest of the DR2 cast's) lost memories. Unlike Naegi who had a relatively normal past, it's only natural that what happened to Hinata in the past would influence his disposition, even without his memories intact.

Though as far as normality goes, I'd say that Koizumi is the most "normal" of the cast after Hinata (apparent feminism aside, anyway). I mean, she even points out herself that most of the people on that island are freaks, doesn't she? And I also kinda liked how she put her foot down after Kuzuryuu's provocations.....

No I mean DR2 Togami behaving normally...IE, DR2 Togami is still suspicious and not open to others and shit

Hagakure was the one murdered in the first case instead of Maizono.

It made me feel even worse for her knowing things could have been different. Even if she wasn't purely innocent, I still enjoyed her characterization in the short time she had.

Honestly, I'm not all too bummed about Maizono's death. I just never found her very interesting (and that's despite the fact the game strongly implies that she had a pretty dark side to her). If anything, I was more sad to see Leon go. He seemed like a cool dude and it saddens me that the psycho teen idol drove him to murder..... Plus, his execution still leaves the strongest impression on me, even now.


But hey, at least you can check out Danganronpa IF for a retelling of the original game's story where things go in a very different direction as far as the cast's survival is concerned.....

I don't mind the change, since I felt like Maizono was a better character and therefore had more of an impact that Hagakure.

Honestly, Hagakure was one of the main problems I had with DR1's story.

I felt like Hagakure's entire purpose was to be the red herring in every case other than the first and the final one. He was a simple minded character whose purpose was to be taken advantage of (like how he was framed and accused to multiple murders) and... well, to be one of the few "innocent" students meant to survive by karma.

Because of how simple his character was compared to the range of emotions every other character expressed, I felt like he was nothing more than a bystander rather than a complex human being. Even if he was involved in nearly every case, I felt like he was just... there.

The same can be said about Fukawa, whose sole two purposes seemed to be a comic relief character for how creepy she was, and as a plot device to hide Genocider Sho, who ended up overshadowing Fukawa to the point where she didn't even know what happened in the final trial.

Well, I can understand that you'd feel that way about both Fukawa and Hagakure (many others feel that way actually, though I still like the both of them anyway ). Personally, I don't really feel that Syo overshadowed Fukawa that much.... I mean sure, Syo is all wacky and zany, but it's pretty clear that even her "original" personality is all kinds of messed up as well (and I'm not just talking about her goofy sexual innuendo gags). And it's not like she was completely useless, since at least her Syo side didn't get her memories wiped like the rest of the cast (of course, she didn't know the complete details about that huge "despair-inducing incident", but at least she knew something).


As for Hagakure, while he may basically be the "Shaggy" of the first game and a total sham of a fortune teller, two of his predictions technically DO come true: First off, his claim about his and Naegi's kids sharing the same mother gets confirmed in the chapter 5 "bad" ending. Secondly, he was kind of correct in chapter 4 about nobody else murdering each other from that point onward (Sakura had committed suicide, Ikusaba was already dead since the first chapter when her trial took place, and.... well, I don't think it's necessary to discuss the mastermind's demise, do I?

But again, that was a important point for Genocider Sho, not Fukawa. As amusing as I found both of them, I still feel like Fukawa herself didn't do anything important in the story. Whenever Fukawa was involved in a big reveal, it's always Sho who does it.

After recovering, I started and finished reading not only the sequel thread but also that IF story. I love this series, but gently caress everyone on the threads that post needless speculation and possible spoilers.


With that out of the way, I have a question: how much does the story in the demo differ from the actual game?

The first chapter's victim in the demo was Hagakure, not Maizono like in the final game. In fact, Oren had even further explained in the first game's LP thread that Spike had went as far as to hide the real identity of the true first victim in ALL of the promotional material prior to the release (like fake screenshots that showed Maizono (and even "Junko") participating in the trials, for instance). I gotta admit, that was a pretty cool stunt on their part, if I do say so myself).

Anyway, it might be a little early to bring this up, but does anyone have a favorite character or two so far from the sequel's cast? I already gave my opinions on who I liked best (mainly through spoilers though), but I'm interested in other people's views.....
