Not sure what the context with the hero confessing who the demon king was to female knight was.

Right now, too many gears are moving right now and too little attention paid to balance it all up. Its like separate 4koma panels going on at the same time...

I keep forgetting the hero actually has magic spells he can use.
It was cut but she was told about it fairly early on by Hero and it was in the context of him wanting her to look after her while he was away.

I do wish they had kept the bit right after Hero saves Demon Girl and before he starts questioning her as it is a bit of a riot with her misunderstanding what he was "borrowing" her for and him freaking out in responce.

Funny at first, yes, until you think about what it means for how often she has been "borrowed" in the past. She's probably lucky if she gets through a week without being raped. The "holy crusaders" in the city are some pretty horrible people.

Yep. Now if only the anime is able to deliver things with more impact.

IMO So far, almost all the major issues has been delivered in a sterile way (aka. no thrill). It’s like the anime doesn’t even try to get the audience to be invested in any of it .

Second that. Each episode went by and had no impact. They don't have to rush and cram everything in 12 episodes. I don't feel like watching next episode either. I might as well drop the show and wait for Kotowaru's next chapter.

It was high time we were show how Demons looked and behaved. Considering how far this anime wants to go, this was a really good episode.

Honestly, even if this series was 24 episodes long, you'll get far more talking, economics and politics than chuunibyou action scenes. I see people feeling anything out of the subtle character reactions. I think MAOYU was too overhyped, and that's why a big chunk of the audience jumped in with wrong expectations.

It was over-hyped because the manga and light novel delivered on all the stuff we're complaining about. It is a very good anime by itself. However, it was based on something much better, so the contrast is disappointing.

Yea I tried my best to defend this series but I'll have to agree 12 episodes just don't do it justice.

I prefer adaptations that strive to be a "good anime" by taking liberties and making the necessary tweaks to the original work (Jinrui, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Chuunibyou, Kotoura-san). Then you have extremely faithful adaptations that only strive to put on TV what was on paper (SAO, BTOOOM!, Sakurasou). If done right, the former are more likely to be a great show. As for the latter, faithfulness often sacrifices being a "good anime" for fan pandering's sake.

With MAOYU, I feel I got a great anime, a fantastic manga and a very interesting novel. It's win-win-win to me. I don't feel that the anime it's a lesser work just because there's a "missing scene" or did things differently.

And who said we only want Chuunibyou action scenes? We want more episodes to flesh out characters through action and interaction as well as get a better understanding of the issue happening.

Faithfulness is not the main problem here. Once again, the problem is: compressing Maoyuu’s plenty of materials in just 12 episodes is just a bad idea. No matter how well-intended the series’ creator is, it simply doesn’t do justice to the source material. In this case, the anime became ultra-rushed and many characters aren’t fleshed out well enough due to being sacrificed for the sake of plot progression (so far). If the studio knows that they’ll only get 12 episodes to do this, they should’ve stop the anime at an appropriate point in the story to better exploit the characters and issues at hand instead of compressing all those material like crazy. Let the “first season” be an unfinished story like Spice and Wolf, Index, Full Metal Panic, etc.

And just to note, Maoyuu is no less faithful than the titles you labeled as "extremely faithful" like SAO and Sakurasou. The difference is, Maoyuu anime has more materials cut out and lacking in execution (thus, less impact).

I don't hate the series but having not read the series from other sources it lacks impact for me. I mean its an enjoyable weekly watch but I also find it a bit forgettable.

Even looking at this discussion the only thing we are talking about is whether its a good or bad adaption, doesn't say much for the series.

Perhaps but I think people are a bit too too baised to the manga ( the comic Ace version in perticuler) which is fairly diffrent than the novel which is 99% dialouge with nearly no disciptions of people, places, actions or things(the manga tends to show the events that are only mentioned in passing in the LN). Personaly I feel the anime is doing a good job convaying the story although I do miss some of the more comedic dialouge that has been trimed out and some of the details in the explanations have been steamlined it has been a close adaption of the first book so far. Realy I don't think it would be a good idea for the series to be a 24 Ep one. We are heading for the end of the first novel and matriral wise they might have cut enough for maybe 2 ep at most. It is likely they are rushing the first 2 books, which are stight foreward but getting more complex as it goes, so the the last 3 can be done as a 24 ep season.

Let me point out that Index is a very bad example as it covered 5.75 books in it's 24 ep "first season" all of them with major edits includeing whole subplots removed and it's characters werent flesh out much unless they were Touma or Misaka. Maoyuu on the other hand seems to only be atempting to cover 2 the fact that the manga is also nearing the end of the second book in no way means that they are "compressing all those material like crazy" to get to the end. They have picked a reasonable place to End the season. Aside from Hero's earlyer andventures as Dark Knight the other things cut have been a small amout of comedic dialouge (maybe 2 to 3 minutes worth) and slightly less detailed versions of her plans and that has more to do with the limit of time in an ep and paceing. Hero's been fleshed out (he is worried about not being useful), Maou been fleshed out (She is a kind person that wants to end the strife between everyone, and we now see that she also has some deep selfdoubts that she is doing the right thing), Big Sis has been fleshed out (a smart and strong girl that has deep seated fears that she still hasn't taken control of her life), The Winter Prince ( A man that both wants to see the end of the war and cares for his people, yet blames himself for the death of Hero), Female Knight (A kind yet quick to anger woman deeply in love with Hero with extreme abandmet issues), even the 2 new characters are pretty fleshed out Demon Girl (a kind girl who dislikes conflict), and White Night King (Scum that hides while his men shield him and see money and things as more importent then people.)

After one year of not seeing Maou, our story hero finally returns after completing the task he had been assigned, there is no one else in the whole house (unless the horses can talk), Maou says that as his owner she can reward hero. The dance ends and what does hero does? "Gee, look at the time, i should get going to whack my sword some more in a frozen wasteland" and he teleports without even one #@$% kiss? Hero is GAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY! I am getting vibes from the next episode encounter with the old ranger/thief/ninja that hero has the same sexual orientation as smitters from The Simpsons >_<

Yet, I still think the first 5 episodes of Index isn’t this awful in terms of pacing and editing. Somehow, Index felt less rushed and characters can still "breathe" in their screentime due to decent execution.

As for Maoyuu's charas, they are fleshed-out, but they’re not fleshed-out well enough to me, just like I said in my previous post. Hell, just look at the comments of many anime-only watchers in this thread to know whether the anime was doing a (generally) good job with fleshing-out their characters or not (so far).

pretty much this. . .

Ive actually dropped the show myself, it's just . . .BORING!

if the anime creators stopped messing with shit, and stayed faithful to the sources materials it would be awesome.

As few has already pointed out in the thread, the biggest thing that affecting this series adversely is the length of the show. This episode could easily have been stretched to 3-4 well paced episodes. I sure could have used more exposition about the hero to sell me on the idea that he is not a dummy by any stretch of the imagination. This series isn't horrible or anything, but it could have been so much better. It's a shame really.

re Index: For all the supposed edits, it STILL felt that they were keeping in a huge chunk of uneccesary exposition -- see Touma taking FIVE MINUTES to run three feet in one of the first episodes of season 1.

I feel it's entirely the opposite in Maoyuu, where the production is cutting wholesale a lot of the stuff that would have fleshed out the setting even more, or make the characters... less lame. They're blasting through the material, but they're skipping a LOT of interesting stuff, many of which aren't even useless fluff! It's definitely a strange decision, and the show is suffering for it.

I looked at the rules a few times now... And since I can't find anything that forbids anime- only theories... (I can't even find the word theory in the rules oO)
And no I don't want an answer if its true or not... I want to get that itch to write the theory tdown every time I see certain parts of the anime:

Spoiler for Theory - Demon King identity:
