People like to replace the NJM4556 because it costs 60 cents and they think that means it's crappy, but it's dumb. That opamp is specifically designed to drive headphones--it's one of the few opamps that measures well into loads below 150 ohms, and it's extremely high-current (70mA). The AD797 manages 50mA but not into headphone loads I'm sure. These days, I pretty much don't trust a DAC or amp to be decent unless it's made by me... or Violectric, Benchmark or Centrance. Working on putting together an Objective2 and ODAC combo.

i've already talked to dsnuts and kiteki on head-fi (i know head-fi isn't what it used to be 4 years ago, but there ARE members who have valuable knowledge and you have to seek them out) and they know fully well about these kind of things, and both agree it wouldn't hurt to try the AD797 and see how it goes since it has a nice internal layout. did i take a gamble on this DAC/AMP made in china? i sure did! but for 105 shipped with usb/optical/coaxial input, the ability to roll op amps, a headphone amp, and to use it as a DAC with the CS4398 chip if i chose to try another external amp sits well with me. |

For that price, I see your point. While I'd love to have a DAC1, they just aren't anywhere in my price range!
One of the things that keeps me from trying out Chinese DAC/amp units is output impedance--it's never publicized, so I don't know if it's going to work properly with my headphones (48ohms). Centrance, Benchmark and Violectric always publish the figures (even though Centrance units default to 10ohms, you can get them to mod it to 1ohm).

I ordered a Birthday gift for my sister from Amazon and took the chance to order something for myself as well:
Sadly there doesn't seem to be a BluRay version available in the UK so a DVD will have to make do for now (and considering the movie is visually stunning I REALLY wanted the BluRay version).

Precisely
. Perhaps a small room specially reserved for my beloved books, where I can sit comfortably on an armchair and sip a cup of tea on a lovely Sunday afternoon while immersing myself in my books. The wallpaper for my little library would be blue and pink poppy flowers.

Well, I bought a new microphone since the internal mic I was using on my laptop has poor quality audio... I manage to pick this up for $49 (refurbished, but still look in good shape), which is only 9 dollars more than the Blue Snowflake. From first impressions, it sounds better.

Bought a pair of Powell Shoes by Clae to start off the new semester of college. I actually don't like the yellow part at the bottom but it doesn't really matter to me since it won't show unless one actually looks down there. I really like Clae and their models (I wish they were more well known so that they would come out with more models quicker). Not only do they look "high-end" or "fancy," but they are super comfortable.
