Rewrite isn't exactly lauded for its heroine routes, you know? Shizuru's is especially despised.

While most of the endings could be considered bittersweet (Kotori's certainly could!) the only one that's outright bad in that regard is Shizuru's.

Give Lucia's route a try, at least. You'll probably like it a lot, it's the most heroine-route-like of the bunch.

A lot of the stuff in Akane's route shows up again in Terra. You'd be insane to not animate at least parts of it.
Chihaya's route, on the other hand, is completely irrelevant except for Sakuya. You'd do better to throw his content into another route.

Animating an original story based off of content in the heroine routes without focusing too much on a single heroine seems like the sanest option to me.

This certainly isn't the first time it happens in a VN, but most of the time I was playing through Shizuru's route I kept thinking "Poor Kotori's all alone and stressed out while Kotarou's here...talking to fairies and cuddling panties."

It wasn't the ending of Shizuru's route that bothered me the most but it was that

She becomes a mute in her route. Her eccentric character was the most interesting/comedic part aboot her, but she's a mute for most of her route.

Also, while I liked the beginning and a certain ending scene of Lucia's route, I really don't like what her character turns into

Too emo for my liking. It took Kotarou/Chihaya FOREVER to tell her that she was just being a brat.

My order was Kotori (best route)>Shizuru>Lucia>Chihaya>Akane. I suggest that order since stuff in Akane's route is relevent later, so it's nice to keep it fresh on your mind. Plus, Akane's route leaves you with questions.
I really liked Chihaya's route, since Sakuya. But yeah it didn't really have any "Key moments".

The only reason that Kotarou was able to call his friends was because of the bonds they shared in their respective routes. Without them, he would not have been able to stop Kashima, so those endings were important for achieving the true ending.

- IIRC, I believe it was slightly hinted in Chihaya's route that his previous master he couldn't protect was one of the Key (I don't think this is Kagari though). He couldn't prevent the salvation, hence the end of the world and the lost of his precious master. No idea though whether he belong to any organization. Someone may add more into this I guess
- I believe 散花 (Scattered Flowers) is supposed to be his BGM (the first person to use it in the first place), but then again it was used several times in other routes too so who knows

I think it doesn't necessarily explain more, but it just present one of the possibilities that wasn't actually shown to readers in the original game (only noted by Kotarou once in his monologue)

I believe you will have different impression once you finish Lucia and Akane's route. Those two are the more better ones than the rest in my experience. Then there are Moon and Terra (arguable, but alas I think readers have some responsibilities to see it through the end )

And regarding Shizuru's ending, this is why people should read and finish Chihaya's route first because...

heh, that reminds me from the time when I went that route. I was expecting Kotarou to rewrite everything and save everyone, but then I realized that kind of things won't happen in this game. I guess since I just finished Chihaya route, I'm sort of hoping that the miracle where everyone is happy will happened in this route too.

One have to wonder, what would happen to Lucia in the end if this was done by Maeda . Personally, I am happy with the conclusion given to her by Ryukishi.

I don't think they just turn into a tree if they overwrite themselves, lol. Unless I'm missing something, they both intended to become a tree to protect themselves from salvation. In Chihaya's route when Kotarou overwrites himself, he just goes berserk because his mind was turning into a familier. So I thought he turned into a tree on purpose in Shizuru's route...

EDIT: Also I'm surprised that this thread isn't more active, considering the final patch is only a month old

Kotarou turns into a tree at the end of the Terra route too. Mind you, he's fusing with Kagari at that point, who is doing the same.
I'm not sure how much of the "becoming a tree" thing we should take seriously, given what other routes it appears in and what else those routes seem to misinterpret...

I didn't exactly mention becoming a tree, what Chihaya's route implied about Sakuya is that people with "Rewrite" ability will become something non-human in the end if they choose to continue rewriting themselves. Not that is really a bad thing though if it's something you need to do to protect someone. Technically, I believe Kotarou can choose the other thing instead of tree, but alas I also believe a tree is something that being used in Shizuru's route as reference to what Sakuya had done in the past. One have to wonder that Tonokawa like to make some connections between routes done by him.

I will leave out the thing in Terra though since that has a real purpose. If we strongly need to have an answer for why Kotarou choose to become a tree in Shizuru's route, then Shizuru's after story in HF can be somewhat an answer for this.

Salvation kill all humans and animals. Plants are unharmed though ,so by turning into a tree Kotarou/Sakuya can survive salvation.

Kagari also end up becoming a tree in Moon Route though she revert back to human form again when aurora return to Earth.

It was the fact that the world ended and KOTAROU TURNED INTO A DAMN TREE. See, I get why he turned into a tree, why it saved him from the end of the world but it doesn't make it any less stupid to have an ending like that. After all that crap, after the world ends...everyone Shizuru knew and cared about vanished before her eyes and in the end Kotarou turned into a freaking tree...that's not a bitter-sweet ending, that's just a bad and ridiculous ending that a character like Shizuru did NOT deserve. After all the crap she went trough she's left with a message on an I-Pod and him as a tree? Him being there in any form is supposed to be comforting? Ahh bullshit...
It doesn't matter what happens in the other endings or if the Moon and Terra endings or whatever invalidate the others...what matters is that Shuzuru's own ending is a crappy one she did not deserve.

I do have a little question...does it really matter any if you use your rewrite power during the common route or not? I know it changes a couple of lines during a few scenes in the common route (like seeing Sakuya put the purse in Chihaya's bag or Kotarou breaking the rock) but does it have any real effect on any of the heroine routes? Cause I tried playing Kotori's route twice with and without using the powers in the common route and it didn't change a thing.

Don't think so. Tried playing Chihaya (the only one where it could possibly matter) after rewriting every chance in the common trunk and nothing changed.
