Both shots are kinda unusual for anime, and given the similarity of setting and mood I have to conclude it's a deliberate self-reference.

I really like the new PV and don't understand why are you so sceptical. And P.A.Works still have HanaIrto movie and Nagi no Asukara which are originals and mostly SoL.

Btw new short original romance movie from the studio is announced too(as I understood it ould air in the end of April).

If you're interested, make a point of watching Touka Gettan episode 21, which was written by Noto Mamiko and performed by Hayami Saori. Noto-sensei wrote lines that would have flowed easily off her own tongue and did flow easily off the tongue of the then-16-year-old Hayamin.

True Tears made me a fan of PA Works forever. Nothing since has risen to quite that level for me, but I'm always excited for a new PA Works show.

Sounds to me as if we have a capable director and an excellent writer for this show. To quote my own season preview (now being written, lol): "Veteran director Shinohara Toshiya did various Inuyasha movies, as well as Gunparade Orchestra and Book of Bantorra. Veteran writer Yokote Michiko was lead writer on such shows as Princess Tutu, Genshiken, XXXholic, Squid Girl, and Joshiraku."

EDIT: I just watched the preview stream of episode one, and I'm totally hooked. Intriguing plot. Strong characters. Excellent voicing by Hayamin in particular: her tone of voice as the heroine had me writhing in sympathy with her uncertainty and discomfort. And some excellent scenes and framing.

After watching the first episode, my first impressions towards RDG were very mixed. From what I remembered, it's about a highschool student named Izumiko who lives in her rather empty life at the shrine. For some reasons, she has strange illusions that revolves the fact that she may be possessed by a mysterious entity, and when she encounters a young boy named Miyuki who enrolls in her school as the story advances. Not much happened in the episode and the plot looks dull, plus the characters are very average as well. However, the artwork looks very good and has nice background aesthetics, but it doesn't change my opinion towards this series, though I have strange Hiiro no Kakera vibes when watching. The color palette looks a bit weird and greyish yet I got used to it though I'm somewhat indifferent to it. The music by Hikaru Nanase has a mysterious feel and that's good enough. Izumiko looks very nice but her personality doesn't seem very convincing and her relationship with Miyuki proves to be a very perilous one. The theme songs are beautiful to listen however, but I have the feeling that the future episodes will prove to be action-packed but I'm not too sure either. Overall it was decent but a bit too flawed and I hope it changes past the first episode writting-wise.

I just watched the first episode, and hmmmmm, it's not exactly what I'd been expecting...

In a way it's a pretty cliché setting, with Izumiko and Miyuki who are supposed to be "hime" and "knight" (sorta) but of course Miyuki is a rude teenage boy who doesn't believe in her and keeps putting her down, and of course Izumiko is this terribly shy girl who lacks self-confidence but is actually really powerful and in the end she'll try to prove herself to Miyuki who will have to protect her blah blah blah and they're shown kissing in the OP so presumably they'll fall in love, coming of age story and so on and so forth... not bad, per se, they can still do interesting things with this, but I kind of expected something less "seen this before."

Anyway, the rest of the setting is actually pretty good so far, the cast looks interesting, so yep, watching the next episode, too.

One thing that bothers me, though, the voices. Somehow there's this total disconnect between Izumiko who sounds like a ten year-old (even if we take anime voice tropes in consideration) and Miyuki who sounds more like a fifteen year-old. Maybe this is deliberate, but they simply clash and not in a good way, they're like from two different series, if it makes sense. Also, Fukuyama Jun should really just stop using this voice, it's so fake. :/ It's okay in something like Ixion Saga but not in a serious show. And Kugimiya Rie should stop trying to voice teenage boys, period.

I really didn't know what to expect from this but can't say I was that impressed with the first episode. The two main characters are walking cliches.

My main issue is the main girl is so extremely shy and the main male character is such an extreme jerk. I think it is just the extremes of it that annoy me because yeah obviously their relationship will improve but I don't think it makes your story better to start off this way with no likable characters.

Of course sometimes it can work out really well like 12 Kingdoms (and this girl sort of reminded me of Youko at the beginning) but they are really going to need awesome character development like that and well not many series can really pull that off. If they do though then I will be impressed

And as for the jerky guy well I like my jerks with a heart of gold but not like that. The fact that they made him so nasty was a bit unbelievable to me and now they are going to have to push even harder to make me think he is not a bad guy.

I will give it a few more episodes because I do like the Shinto aspect

The first episode takes place in Nara I believe but according to the synopsis they move to Tokyo. That's a bit disappointing since I think Nara is a much more interesting setting. I mean I love Tokyo but almost every other anime takes place there, but oh well!

Given they did this same trick in HanaIroha, I imagine they'll soften Miyuki quite a lot. But, yeah, let's show childhood jerk moments to make the guy forced to be a man-servant while still 14 just that less likeable. (He's getting screwed over here, but there's obviously a reason)

I'm going to call it now: Izumiko's mother is actually a diety of some form, which is why she's practically wandering around Japan.

I like Motoko's way of diving into Computers a little better than Izumiko's. It's a little safer to all involved.

We'll see where this goes. I'm pretty neutral on PA Works. I've like some; didn't like others. So, I hope it goes well.

i can see this getting alot better around 5 eps in but right now the main girl is too damn shy and Miyuki is a prick!!
They will probally have him saving a kitten later then his character will do a complete 180 lol

Ugh, that touchy, little rat-boy. When he came limping back after creepy old Sagara taught him a lesson in manners, I almost cheered.

Narcissistic psychopaths that secretly have a heart of gold are staples in all the very worst Shoujo and Josei, and I had the sickly feeling that's what I was watching. Characters like his should only exist as punching-bags and not potential love interests.
I usually give everything a five episode chance, but If he's destined to be a protagonist, I may bow out early.

All the other boys were Grade A dick-weeds too, WTH.

Izumiko didn't bother me, just a shy kid who gets picked on. Nothing to annoy me there. If you do find shyness annoying, chances are you're an arrogant blowhard a la Miyuki.
Fortunately for her she seems to have good friends, hope they don't screw her over.

I figure our lead will not be this shy all throughout the show, and as corny as it sounds it'll be symbolized by her stopping to wear her glasses, just look at the OP, she's not wearing any in the vast majority of it and she doesn't wear any in the ED either.
She'll likely drop them when she goes to high school.

Well, having now seen the first episode in SupaLowRezOVision I'm intrigued. What really interested me was the computer sequence, there's clearly more to this girl than meets the eye.

All things told I think Miyuki has good reason to be unhappy with his situation. It does all have a ring of "old powerful families are all bastards" to it.

The ED was wonderful.
