So I finally got around to finishing this, unfortunately, I didn't enjoy Terra route much.

Moon route however, was a really entertaining read, It's what I was really hoping for the end conclusion but it ended up being the prologue for Terra...

But anyways, I have a question that's been bugging me.

How did Moon Kotarou (M.K) know that he was going to be the flame that lights the way to saving the Earth for Terra Kotarou? (T.K) Especially knowing that T.K has to be born earlier (to my understanding) than the heroines.

From the game:

Now that the theory's complete, the possibility it brings won't have this peace.
Because this was caused by those missing years.
The theory lights our way to the future like a torch.
As we head into the unknown.
I... Tennouji Kotarou will be chasing that flame.
I'll follow the possibility I found here.
Throwing away those years of uninterrupted sleep will probably put Tennouji Kotarou on a much harsher path.
I probably won't get to goof around with these guys in the same school year anymore.
I'll be living in a different time from them.


Seriously... If Kagari has so much power as to make Koutaru not only be older at the time he meets the heroines, as well as not getting knocked out into a coma state. Then why doesn't she just give Kotarou enough power to be strong enough to not only avoid missing those years, but also get the whole heroine cast to team up and help him carry out the plan he enacted in Terra route?

For me, that would've been SO MUCH more entertaining for the Terra story, we get to meet the whole cast all over again (or Kotarou meets them the same way but interacts with them much differently). Plus, it's what Kotarou obsessed about throughout several (maybe all, I don't remember) of the heroine routes, trying to keep the Occult Club together.

Well I know some people like it when the story tells itself and the characters are just a part of it. I personally prefer the characters move the story, it's what makes me care about the story that's being shown to me. I didn't care much for Terra route... Plus that epilogue was too short, I needed another 100 lines or so... It was getting so interesting when the heroines made Kotarou their familiar, but then it ends... damn...

Oh, one more thing... Why doesn't Kotori, Akane, and Shizuru not recognize Kotarou when they summoned him? Especially Kotori... I mean come on... She spent so much time with him as a child. Not to mention those were not everyday things, near impossible to forget those kinda events...

There's one thing you're mistaken here...Kagari didn't MAKE Kotarou older than the other heroines, Kotarou was ALWAYS older than the other heroines, even in the common and their respective routes. The common route and Terra's stories are pretty much the same up until the point where Kotarou either attacks Kagari or lets her go. In the other routes he attacks her, gets mortally wounded and then Kotori saves him with the help of Kagari while also turning him into a familiar. Kotarou went into a coma and his memories were changed. When he woke up he hadn't aged (since he was a familiar) and still thought he was in middleschool (at the time) which was around the same age as Kotori.

There are many hints during nearly every route that Kotarou is older than the others or that he has a past with other people that he doesn't remember. Hell, it's pretty much explained in Kotori's route.

Since he didn't attack Kagari in Terra, he never went into the coma.

It's implied that Kotori made "Pochi" look like Kotarou on purpose (when she mentions her own selfishness), which would explain why she isn't surprised about his looks. Shizuru probably didn't recognize him since she only met him for a few minutes years before and Akane...probably did notice but figured it was Kotori's doing.

Ah that's right, I forgot about that little (yet important) detail. Kotarou is already a familiar in the common route, so that's why the bad end in Terra leads to the beginning of the common route story. There's also hints and clues about Kotarou's makeup in Shizuru's and Chihaya's route, I can't believe I forgot those things. Thanks for clearing that up.

But that still doesn't explain how M.K knows that T.K needed to avoid loosing those years of being in a coma. Well, he has a ridiculous amount of knowledge in Moon route, I'll just assume it's because of what he learned from all that knowledge he gained there.

Hmm... not sure that sits well with me... It's a personal preference but, I would've liked it better if Kotori was surprised at who came out of the tree and have a nice heart warming reunion with Kotarou. Also, would've been nice for Akane to thank him for saving her, really, that would've felt a hell of a lot more emotional and touching for me than the epilogue we got... it felt cut short. Oh well.

He probably understands that by leaving his feelings in Moon behind to T.K will probably makes T.K not having coma since he will never attacks Kagari because of that emotion.

I personally think that what Kotarou did was just leaving that message that he wants to meet Kagari again and Moon Kagari then planned the events based on that. Because he wants to meet her again, Kotarou experienced an event where he went through many difficulties and in turn transform to what happened in the end, where he can use his ability to travel to the moon. Though he could also planned the knowledge leak method and then Kagari sees that as something that will eventually gives future to humanity

Basically every single thing that happens in Terra is predetermined. This might be obvious, but that was the whole point of all the non-choices.
It's a subtle and very meta take on the nature of true routes in visual novels. Really beautiful, in my opinion.
As for why Kotarou doesn't wait to get the Occult Club together again or whatever, well... the whole point of Kotarou's development in Terra is that he can only reach his desired ending by throwing away everything that matters to him. That would include the Occult Club.
Moon was a way of saying goodbye to them anyway, so if it makes you feel better you can regard it as the game's "grand finale" and Terra as a sequel/spinoff of sorts.

He was 20 years old when he fell to coma.
Yet when he woke up, he able to pass off as middle schooler somehow. Did his body change when he become familiar or something?
Also, I am pretty sure he just finished middle school when he join Guardian. Why was he already 20 when he join the Kazamatsuri mission? I thought his training only last for a few months.

You have to realize that Pochi is NOT Kotarou. The familiar the girls create at the end using the tree that Kotarou and Kagari turned into is neither of them but a new being entirely that just happens to look like Kotarou thanks to Kotori (and possibly a shared personality of the two).
He has no memories of the past or of who he was and is, he's just a familiar with a lot of power. Akane knowing this would not need to thank him as he is NOT Kotarou, thus he is not the person that saved her but rather something that looks like him.

Yes, the age part was always poorly done (and just plain wrong at times).
Kotarou entered Guardian at the start of Highschool, he should have been 16 or 17 AT BEST. Guardian's training lasted only months yet by the time he returns from it and straight into the mission he's 20. Then four years or so seem to pass while he's away, making him 24/25.
Worst is the fact that by the time he returns from war, Kotori and co should have already been 14/15...yet they are played as being 10 or 11, also using the same sprites. I know they would have needed new sprites (not really...they should simply use the old ones and say she looks older...) but it's a bit jarring when you think about the ages in general.
Also the fact that in Terra Esaka doesn't get his white hair...despite being only a couple of years removed from the original timeline where he's already old and gray.

Actually, I am positive Kotori & co is supposed to be 14/15 years old by the time Kotaro return from frontlines. It was mentioned in the epilogue the Kotarou tree able to grew big in just 3 years.
The sprites are just laziness. Esaka should've white hair since he only 2/3 years younger compared to main route.

"Kazamatsuri Bond", his fake identity, is 20 years old. Kotarou himself is probably around 15-16 at that point.
That's the impression I got, anyway.
Terra begins ~10 years before the main game and the majority of it covers a ~5 year period. Kotarou is probably around 20 by the time he gets back from Afghanistan.

Yeah, Terra's chronology is a bit fucked-up, but I really wonder how much of that is just the translation...
