I just have to say, Seriously? That? I once killed myself by ramming my BT-2 into Lowe Gear's Tier X. That's the best F U Kuromine can give Ooarai.

Of course, it fits with Shiho's philosophy of victory at all costs. It's also clear now that Black Forest was relying on their tanks, firepower advantages, and probably a few elites, to secure their wins, and they grew complacent. They're paying for that now.

As for that, I figure it was an overreaction to Pravda. Also, I still think Saunders has deeper funds - look at the logistics support they brought along. I suspect Black Forest drained their coffers to get that monstrosity.

Finally got a chance to watch it, although it was with terrible subs, but it will hold me over for now.

Respect level for the Student Council just went up 10 points and their "Hetzers gotta hetz" antics. They were highly entertaining, especially with what they did to the Jagdpanther.

How soon til Erika has a meltdown?

Girls really should have run for their lives as soon as that thing backed into view, rather than staring at it in awe.

That was awesome. They threw the entire line into chaos just by tracking a few tanks and driving around randomly.

I don't know, to me it seems like scraping the barrel of all possible members to fill up the 20 tank slot. Basically, the manpower has been overextended.

They have almost 100 crew in those 20 tanks (97 if I count correctly).

There may be some truth in Sume's supposition, as the way the Kuromorimine battle line reacted to having a hetzer park beside them doesn't fit with crews used to tanks like Bengal Tigers or Panthers. Rather they reacted like light tank crews, which is to say they scattered like scared chickens.

Consider that in the hanger scene before the battle, Maho was looking over her tanks. That included five Panzer IIIs. They only brought one with them. The six Jadgpanzer IVs, the two Tigers (I and II) and the three Panthers seem to all have came along.

My guess is that they usually use Panzer IIIs in numbers with a Tiger and some Panthers, with maybe a few tank destroyers. The extra groups are either fresh or not skilled with their tanks. The threats they had would have been much worse for Panzer III crews.

They are skilled at repairing their tanks in the field though, as all the tanks tracked by the Hetzer (and other problems) were fixed by the end of the episode for the formation shot.

This goes back to the whole competence issue - how competent do we expect a team of high school girls to be, when they have to juggle Panzerkraft, school, and homework? Given that they can't devote as much time to their craft compared to professional soldiers in armored divisions.

But then that's just plain bad planning, because Black Forest should have planned for the finals, and they should have planned on training their crew, and it looks as though they were somewhat halfassed here.

So yes, you could draw parallels with latewar Germany, who had good tanks and good fighters, but raw and untrained pilots - not the least because Germany and Japan never rotated their aces back home to teach, unlike the US.

Which is surprisingly big for a school club - Ooarai's Panzerkraft team has two other clubs crewing for them (Volleyball & Automobile), afterall. Then again, it does have a reputation as a Panzerkraft school.

As an aside, something amusing that I just thought of, remembering back to the match against Saunders: Naomi has been chewing bubblegum throughout the match, right up until she steps up to bat, and starts killing Ooarai's tanks - and stops, because she has no more gum.

She came to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And she's all out of gum.

Yah, the Jagdpanther team cost a lot of time to fix the track and then be tracked again .

We assume Maho and Erika are high school seniors, though some have suggested they might be college students. I'm unsure about that since if they had access to college students, would it be considered fair? (It be like the local high school teams going up against Stanford in football or something).

If they are high school students, it would normally be like having the local high school teams again Concord's De La Salle "Spartans" football team (151 winning streak from 1992 to 2003). But there is always a first time to lose. Pravda was Black Forest Peak's After that it becomes an effort to return to glory, or never get it back.

Question: Based on Senshado rules, what is the-best-allowed-to-paticipate tank that can defeat THAT THING.

... An E-100? :P It's also possible (but the chance is small!) that an IS-3 or an ISU-152 could put a dent in the thing, or at the very least disable it. Another possible candidate is the T95.

Basically anything with more than a 105 mm gun has a chance to take the behemoth out.

Miho, Yukari, and Erwin are the only ones who should have known to sound a general retreat and not think that they can take it out or stare like idiots at it for so long. The rest its forgivable that they didn't understand what they were dealing with.

A Destroid Monster. :P

The Girls should definitely stay out of the way of the Maus, they really don't need to engage it after all. All they need to do is somehow avoid it long enough take out the flag tank.

Erm ... IMO the best way to deal with an absurdly big and armored tank is to send out a hero, who knocks at the hatch and when they open drops in a grenade. Right?

No grenades allowed.

For something like a Maus, you don't try and fight it with tanks. You call in Hogs, who will strafe it with the GAU-8 rotary cannon of AMERICAN JUSTICE, and who will kill it with Maverick missiles, JDAMs, iron bombs, and Mk 20 Rockeye antiarmor cluster bombs. XD

But really, you don't actually need to defeat the Maus. You just need to break contact, stay the fuck away, and kill the flag tank. Remember, it's a flag match, not annihilation.

true, but its unlikely given this series where no one can be minorly injured from tank battle. would there even be a weakness between the turret and body? the part under the main gun seems the best location though its probably well armoured. is the fuel tank in a bad location? ive yet to see eps 11-12, though tanks do carry fuel externally. if anything, id guess the external tank would be the weakness to stop the motor and smoke the interior out.

as far as this series goes for being a "safe" sport, namely no injuries, im suprised no one has been allowed very minor bodily harm.

I'm actually reminded of Otto Carius. He progressed from the PzKpfw 38 (t) to the Jagdtiger, and complained of how the Jagdtigers, despite their size and powerful gun, was extremely slow, had poor maneuverability, and used a weak transmission. Since it was an assault gun, Carius also lamented the loss of a turret. Basically, aside from the manpower issue I think we also have a retraining issue, where we have the crew using tanks they aren't quite familiar with compared to the Schwerpunkt-style mobile tanks they used in the past.
