The importance of air superiority in warfare is very circumstantial.

It doesn't help that there are so many different ways you can wage war.

Jungle warfare I suppose. A platoon of 120 men up against rebels and an incomplete IS which has its PIC down so loss of flight capabilities and lower agility.

A hundred and twenty men doesn't sound like a lot, they must be out of their minds.

Is it a mountain? If it is, navy helps.

To be fair, air superiority DOES bring absolute victory all the time, it's just that the economic and strategic value of said victory can be very dismal. Air force are much more expensive to operate and maintain than tactical equivalent of the army.

War against insurgent for example, is the reason of why drones are deployed much more often, air superiority and manned close air support is not needed at all because the freedom fighters doesn't even have aircraft to operate and their ground assets are pitiful.

And without PIC... I can say that pilot in that unit will be fucked up sideway then some, unless this platoon of infantry forgot to bring heavy weapon and support, then Box does have his point, it's a senseless suicide.

Regardless of the IS' mobility, depending on what type of IS it is it should still have considerable firepower.

It's even worse if they don't know there's an IS, or even if they know there is one but they're not familiar with it.

If the rebels have any sense of coordination at all, the IS should be a deciding factor.

It's inland and they are armed with special anti IS weaponry. They didn't expect it to be active because the rebels stole the core in transit. The anti-IS weaponry was a precautionary matter. Not to mention experimental. It was perfect excuse to run their live tests.

That, ironically or perhaps frustratingly enough, begs to ask more questions than it gives answers.

First of all, 'anti-IS weaponry' is vague, just what is that supposed to mean, other than it was meant for an IS.

But more than that is the possible knowledge, or lack thereof. Do the rebels know they're packing that stuff? Even if they did, are they familiar with the weapons themselves? What about whoever is the pilot?

Inland does actually make an aerial assault seem more risky.

The longer you spend flying over enemy territory, the more opportunities they have to shoot you down.

Past stuff I made. Out of 120, just about 14 people survive.

The IS core is to be transported but was stolen by rebels in mid transit. It has no frame yet but earlier in the year a frame was stolen within the area. It's basic but features a prototype energy rifle. They suspect the rebels also stole the frame and are in the process of installing the core. They aren't sure the rebels have the know how to actually do this, but they decided to use the anti-IS platoon anyway.

49-51 in favor of the anti-IS guys.

Yeah, it's a close fight. That was what I aimed for. PTSD in a fight against an IS. the whole thing was written off as never happening. It's all changed so that the rebels were destroyed when they tried to hijack an IS which was being tested. The pilot(pulled out of nowhere) is hailed as a hero. The anti-IS unit is disbanded. This is to make it so people feel secure about IS, though it ended up killing over half the corps and indirectly causing another good 10 deaths indirectly.

It would be the backstory for that other OC I named, Brave Morrison.

EDIT: For some reason I'm really not happy about my ideas for Cake eater. Wonder if I should do something else first?

Does Charlotte and Laura always keep a gun handy? I'm thinking of a scenario where a Strike Jabber attacks the students while they're without their IS.

I remember Houki carrying a Katana at one point in the series.

In her mind, Charlotte thinks through her Rapid Switch specialty. There’s hardly anyone else around aside from them. ‘A quick barrage shouldn’t take long…’ *don-don-don-don-don-don* green plasma bolts fire from the drone’s tri-barreled gun without any given warning, catching the three by surprise. “Watch out, Ichika!” The bolts riddles the path with smoldering sub-liquid patches of melted material but with the girls’ quick thinking, Charlotte pulled Ichika into an alleyway on their right and Laura throws herself into another on the left. “Wait a sec! Why the hell did it—?” “No idea… but we can’t sit around to find out.” “It’s still there, Charlotte.” “All right.” Armored arms of her Raphael Custom materialize over her own along with a single Garm SMG in her right hand. A quick spin out of the alleyway, Charlotte points the weapon just as the Jabber launches itself skyward, turning south and boosts away. “What the—” “Follow it!” ~++~ The Jabber lands on a grassy plains surrounded by tall trees and is littered with boulders. Making their way through the densely-packed trees, Ichika, Charlotte and Laura clears them and arrives to the plains with the drone in plain sight. “There it is, take it down!” byum— a pair of green flash appear from behind a boulder next to them, turning out to be a Strike Jabber attempting to pounce upon the students with its beam blade deployed. “Laura! Behind you—!” Ichika dashes between Laura and the Strike Jabber, executing Partial Deployment of his right arm and Yukihara sword to block the beam blade. “Ichika!” “Go on! I’ll hold this one off…!” “Tch…” Both girls sprint towards the lone Jabber, partially deploying their respective IS’ arms and weapons. Charlotte whips out a Garm while Laura activates the beam sabers from her IS arms. “Who the hell are you guys!?” *ZIIING—* *KSHIING—* Even with his IS partially deployed, Ichika feels the intensity of his blade grinding against the Strike Jabber’s and smacks it away, clashing again the second time with his Yukihara swung overhead and the drone’s beam blade held horizontally above its head. *CLANG* The Strike Jabber furiously pushes the Yukihara away then points its plasma gun at him. “Kuuh—!” *don-don-don-don-don-don* He dashes for cover behind the boulders and the plasma bolts chew away on its surface bit by bit. Sounds of the plasma gun being fired prompts Charlotte to turn back, watching as he’s being pinned down while the drone keeps firing on the boulder. “Ichika—!” She turns back and sees the other Jabber pointing its own plasma gun at her, its tri-barreled gun muzzles glowing bright leaving her with little time to evade “Not this time!” Laura jumps in front of Charlotte, extending her left arm out and deploys her concave-shaped AIC field just as the Jabber opens fire.
