Durarara 12 *_*. last cliffhanger was killing me XD. Shizuo x Varona is cute, but I doubt they will make it official like Shinra x Celty. With Durarara, intelli village, and Mahouka, I wonder if I will have time to read them all >_<(haven't finished biblia 4 either :cry

Great, now you make me wish it was available here rather than the "I got kidnapped into an Ojou-sama school as a 'Commoner Sample'"... which already has 5 volumes available for purchase... and I bought one of them >_>

Hello.

I haven't found any thread in which I could ask this question, so I would want to do it here. A response would be really appreciated.
I was told that a Volume of a random Light Novel is approximately 200 pages long.

1. Is that true?
2. If it is true, how much % of pages are pictures? (Approximately)
3. Approximately how many words are written per page? (If translated to English)

Thank-you very much in front.

1. More like 300+ pages.

2. Lol percentage? Try less than ten illustrations

3. 350 pages has about 71 000 words, assuming im not reading this wrong.

Ten illustrations in the whole Novel!?

Woah...
Well, anyhow, thanks for the answer.

If I may also ask, which Light Novel(s) did you take for example here?

Also, isn't 202 words quite a lot for one page...? (I used a calculator)

A published novel in English tends to have 300-500 words per page depending upon the font size and how much dialogue it has.

Most of the LNs that have been officially published in the US (Haruhi, Bungaku Shoujo, Rocket Girls) are around 200-250 pages, and the BT translations I have on my Kindle are typically in the same range, though there are a few books that go up to 400. But even more literary Japanese novels tend to be equally short in English, and the ones that are longer are often broken into multiple volumes in Japan.

Did you think LN were filled with illustrations? Not counting the cover page, on average you're looking at 2 colours and 8 monochrome.

The book I ueed was Index volume 7, which teh_ping said had 347 pages and 71 000 words when he was done with it.

I see, thanks for the answers, everyone.

The thing is that I have already wrote a story that currently has 90 000 words overall and was wondering if it is a bit much to include it all in just one Volume.
I'm continuing on the story and have a lot in my head, so future writing is not a worry, but how to "pack" everything up would be easier if I knew the answers to the things I asked.

No. of Pictures per Volume: Gotcha.
No. of Words per Page & Words Overall (Overall Volume's Length): Will do something myself.

Thanks again.

^.... what do you intend with that? publish a book or get it to a publisher to be published? and 90 000? that number of words is almost for 2 volumes novel.

Chaos used index for comparison but Index's publisher tends to have more plot development on them while other publisher tends to have books that are more character centric type and those type are shorter with about 200 pages average while Mahouka and Index has 300 pages average.

and lets not talk about horizon.

I'll put on some sort of a magic show myself, no worries, hehe.
The main point is where the story has that cut. I'll keep to that.

...Have you guys counted the number of words for a single Gundam Unicorn volume? Volume 1 alone has 210 pages of JP text...converted into 57,924 English words.

It all depends on the publisher as well. Dengeki Bunko, the leading company in LN publications with series SAO, Index, Shana, Oreimo, Horizon (I'll count this as an exception), Mahouka, Accel World, has most of its volumes average more than 300 pages per volume nowadays, not 200 (which is extremely short even for a LN)

Monogatari has around 400+ pages.

Famitsu Bunko, which has Baka Test and Bungaku Shoujo, has its pages limited to the 250-300 range. (but there are exceptions, like Baka Test v7 which has around 330 pages, and the 'Hikaru ga Chikyuu ni Itakoro.....' series, which has around 320 pages per volume,) This publisher does limit the number of pages the author write.

Infinite Stratos (and most Mediafactory Bunko books like Haganai, HnA and ZnT) have less than 300 pages in general (and I haven't seen a volume that exceeded that page limit yet).

To note, when I did volume 7 of Index, the number of pages it took for me on Microsoft word was around 171 pages, calibri, font size 12, no spacing between paragraphs.

I thought Narita was ending it at Vol 12 and starting sequel (a real one) later?

Hmm... The afterwrd did say so. At least Narita planned to end the dollar plotline on vol 12 and explore the other facet(such as Celty) as the new theme, posibly with a new title. Author change their mind sometimes though.

I see.

Don't mind in the end either way, as long as he keeps writing. I was under the impression that Celty's story was coming to a close however.

Spoiler for Vol. 10-11:
