DVR Cable box video into PC
I have a Motorola VIP1963 cable box from my TV operator which includes internal HDD to record shows. It has HD, compontent, RCA and SCART outputs; it's connected to my Samsung LCD via HDMI cable.
I also have a Sony RDR-HX7-10 (from 2006, great machine!) with internal HDD but doesn't have HDMI input and only supports 480p. I tried using it to copy from the cable box via SCART but there seems to be some sort of image crop and the playback doesn't look very good on my LCD; for the same SD video, the playback directly from the cable box looks better.
I was planing to record the videos (especially the HD ones) of my cable box into my PC via capture card. What worries me is the possible Macrovision or possible HDCP on the video output that could mess my video.
Is component a valid alternative in terms of video quality?
Also, I have no idea with capture card suits me best.
