...SAO v12 sold like 150k for the first week...

In comparison, a series like Strike the Blood has around 25k sales for v7's first week.

Baka Test v11 had like around 60k for the first week.

The all-time average record holder for average copies sold per volume is still Haruhi with around 800k, but SAO is right behind.

Index has around 500k, btw.

In addition to what Ice bro said above, NT6 sold 153 836 in its first month before it fall out of the oricon rankings.

The last week on the chart has it selling 8000 copies so even after that there's probably a few hundred to thousands being sold under the radar.

thats good to hear. i have a feeling that NT7 well sell above 140k and probably over 150k but i have low hope of it reaching 160k for some reason "in its first month".

Biblia's average sales per volume is not higher than Haruhi? IIRC, biblia almost reached average 1 million per volume sales before the amazing volume 4 come out

I think it is. Just that Oricon does not consider Biblia as a light novel.

Ah yes, I forgot about Oricon not thinking biblia as light novel. Just found an article at BT forum from Teh_Ping, biblia's 3 volume sold more than 4 million, which mean more than 1 million average per volume, and MW bunko print 800k copies as a first print for vol 4. I wonder if they will make an LN version of this like Hyouka to sell even more copies

But back to the topic of Index, I think the biggest think that hold Index from getting more new reader(and also bigger sales per volume) is the number of volume in the series. I mean, as a new reader, it's hard to pick the series when it already has 29 volumes and a new one every 4 months

Most new comers would start from where the Anime left off anyway, so that's 13 volumes that they don't necessarily have to go through again

Which means more Anime seasons equals more people willing to pick up the series... ?

Didn't see it in KonoSugoi for the past few years. Some classify it as ranobe while others don't....it's just weird.

Btw, redoing Biblia v1 prologue now. Won't replace CE's version on BT, but will host it on heretic.

I think that is the one series that will require me to use EndNote for the books used in the stories

Anyway, back to Index. It's in Tier 2 of the LN sales average at this point. In fact, only SAO, I remember, has surpassed Index in sales figures this year.

Another thing I feel that has been holding back sales for NT this time however is that things just get more and more chaotic, too much for new readers to handle. The perspective switch around the three protagonists and side characters extremely quickly, and after Hawaii, we seem to be in an action movie rather than a slower one person perspective before the climax. It just feels like there's not really a lot of time to breathe.

If I'm not wrong, Index should still be among those big sellers like OreImo, Durarara, Mahouka etc... Whether she's leading the pack or not I can't say...

...Maybe it's because the main protagonist still doesn't have a girlfriend yet...

Taste like tears when you have to do a bibliography for a project.

...You know you just named the big name Dengeki Bunko stuff?

Before we start, I'll like to apologize that Baka Test 11 actually sold 30k on the first week, not 60k, but that's partly due to the fact it was released on a Friday...and SAO sold 180k on the first week, double that of Index

Actual sales figures for first week: http://forums.lndb.info/showthread.php?tid=53

Sales figures for April 1st to April 7th: http://lightnoveldatematome.blog.fc2...ntry-1752.html

Sales figures for April 8th to April 14th: http://lightnoveldatematome.blog.fc2...ntry-1803.html

Sales figures for April 29th to May 5th: http://lightnoveldatematome.blog.fc2...ntry-1948.html

Speaking of which, sales figures for last year. Oricon counts Biblia as an LN, but the KonoSugoi committee obviously doesn't think of it as a LN series

Fair to say that Oreimo is around the same category as Index, and may surpass it this year when 12 comes out next month (thanks to the anime boost. Index and Railgun anime are volumes behind it doesn't matter to me at this point unless it's combined sales for the year), but definitely not DRRR. Mahouka isn't that 'hyped' up yet, I believe.

Fans are too divided over the pairings that they cause the series to drop in popularity...probably not.

It wouldn't be fair to compare Index with say, Sakurasou or C3.

Is the total sales for NT4-6 released somewhere already? I don't mean the first month ones...

Mahouka is like SAO pre-Anime...

i wonder whats the real reason why index novel sales are dropping in each new volumes? i hate to see such an amazing series lose popularity. i just hope "in kono light novel ga sugoi", touma and accelerator ranks go higher or at least stay the same.

No, I think someone just compiled the Biblia figures and combined it with the LN figures and posted them on 2ch.

Oricon doesn't count Biblia as a light novel as far as I can remember for chart purposes.

The original 2012 book charts are compiled here:
http://www.oricon.co.jp/entertainmen...203/index.html

There are actually some hidden pages. If you know how the page names work, it's easy to figure out.

These are the 2012 charts of interest:
http://www.oricon.co.jp/entertainmen...3/index07.html (all fiction)
http://www.oricon.co.jp/entertainmen...3/index09.html (light novels by volume)
http://www.oricon.co.jp/entertainmen...3/index26.html (light novels by series)

any other 'charts' on 2ch should be fan-compiled.

It's normal to see sales dropping in each new volume. No new reader are going to pick up only the latest volume and it's inevitable that some old reader drop the series either because their taste change or because they got bored of the story.

Looking at SAO sales trend, this doesn't seem to be true either because the biggest sales increase the series got is from vol 1. It seems that newcomers from anime prefer to read the source material from the start instead of continuing from the the end of the anime

i guess your right. though i think one of the reasons why sales been dropping little by little in each new volume is because of the lack of romance as well. while i do admit i prefer without it, fans like to read these novels as well to see if touma been developing more of his relationship to each certain harem members that fans would like to see/read. though none of the less it is still arguably one of the most popular light novels so far in japan. i believe it still sales in the top ten best in the oricon poles am i correct? though i really expected that the index movie well help boost up publicity for new or old readers.
