That's what I was thinking too, but this tactic requires:
1. regular zombie titans as target (almost no intelligence)
2. tall buildings or trees around them
3. enough blade and gas
4. soldiers out number titans

Problems:
1. abnormal titans pops up once awhile without warning
2. there are rarely any buildings outside the walls (a huge problem for recon
corps)
3. Soldiers runs out blade and gas, but titans just keep coming
4. Same as above, there is no end to the titans. we seems to have more soldiers is because we are more organize and most titans just wondering around on their own

1. "Bishie" may be an exaggeration, but the new Titan looks more intelligent to me, more purposeful and less stupid.

2. I agree with Arya that it's possible the new Titan is in some sense Eren. Maybe evolved from ingesting him or something. The glistening blobs in the severed arm seemed weird, as if they had some special significance.

For me, the hint was very clear.

Spoiler for anime speculation based on Ep7:

Looked like Eren took over the titan's body or something and somehow had his genes morph/control that titan. No doubt thanks to his dad's shot from the first two episodes.

China fought America to a standstill in the Korean war with about a 1/20 kill/death ratio. The humans in SnK are doing bad but they aren't totally failing if there's a 1/30 ratio. The problem as as has been said above is that there are way more Titans.

Spoiler for bollock:

a hunter killer team of around 6 using hit and run tactics on titans would be more efficient

It's also a fertility symbol. So how many of Eren's kids is Mikasa going to have? (I always place my faith in the OP animation.)

And like I've been saying.. they do.

The whole point of each squad consisting of 5~6 people is that they work as a team to take out a titan.
Eren's team was extremely unfortunate to come across not just one, but 4 titans at once.

Normally you'd have teammates baiting, and keeping the titan's attention while the striker of the team goes for the neck.

I do wonder though, why they don't go after the ankles first.
Dropping the titan to the ground for several seconds seem like a good tactic to easily go for the neck.

This got me thinking...

In Korea one way the Chinese would attack US forces was to wait for their tanks to get stuck in rice paddies and then come out of the woods to attack their flanks and rear. The humans in SnK could easily make moats of mud or something to get the Titans immobilized, and then go in for the kill.

thats not a bad idea but using mud is pointless and no offense stupid

a much more slippier alternative would be either oil, pig fat or a lube used in giving birth to horses... no questions on how I know that....

Why? There's plenty of it everywhere, all you have to do is dig up a bigass ditch, fill it halfway with water, and voila.

You don't want them to be sliding everywhere, you want them slowed down so that you can get at their necks. The mud (it could also be some sort of quicksand) would let them sink to a nice depth to be killed.

This made me imagine how many points of mobility would be detracted from the Titans if half the cities were submerged in water and pathways were canals instead....

Humans in SnK world should really invest in better urban planning.....

And you get the water for that from exactly where?
The area behind the wall is about the size of Italy, they're in-land, and no access to ocean.

Coming up with that much water for all the rim cities would take centuries.

The mud trap idea sounds moronic and nothing but a waste of time. It won't help anything, especially against deviant types or any unforeseen contingencies happened. Because humans do not know much sh!ts about Titans, especially abnormal ones.
