Has anyone read the Parasyte manga?

I think that the true form of an average titan is a parasitical alien lifeform that fuses with the brain stem

Hence why the nape of the neck is the weakness

Any one know what level of mandatory conscription they have? I mean, at this point of time ( at least in the manga) I would guess that all able bodied people should be conscripted. However, I don't really know that this isn't already the case, and that the older/ very privileged are the safe ones behind the walls.

Isn't it because that's where the human is? That's why when you cut deep enough you kill the person inside, and the titan along with him.

not all titans have humans in their napes

I mean.. how do you cram an entire human being in a 5m class titan nape?

In fact, hybrids are the only ones that we know off who does have people in them. They'be been CHOPPING OFF Titan napes for years. They would notice if there's anything inside.

I think its a critical point in the storyline that there is a human inside every titan. But how is it possible with the smaller titans you ask? One pretty disgusting idea is that there are children/babies inside the smaller titans.

Also we actually dont know in what kind of state the humans are inside the titans. They are probably heavily merged with the titans flesh.. so badly its difficult to see where the human is. Not to mention even a bigger person can get into a pretty small space if they are in a fetal position.

I'm liking the parasite-idea, but since the term 'parasite' narrows down the list of organisms, I'll simply refer to the titan-factor as 'pathogen'.

What if there was a pathogen that infects humans and transforms them into titans? And that the epidemic Eren's father 'cured' is that same disease?

In Eren's case, his father probably reintroduced the same/different strain of the pathogen back into Eren, which is why he can transform into a titan.

But what about the other 'hybrids'? The only explanation I can come up with (and even I am not completely sold on it) is that there is an element of 'willpower' involved for the hybrids to retain their human form ie not fully transform into a titan.

Annie, Reiner, and Bertholdt all seem to have strong desires and the determination to do anything to pursue them.

I think that's what happened to Connie's village. Something changed them en masse. I'm guessing it was monkey trouble.

Natural immunity.. mutations? maybe they're also test subjects and their hometown is actually a lab. And it seems that Ymir was one of those brainless instinct driven Titans that somehow regained her conscience.

No. it's like resident evil zombies / videogame zombies

even-though everything is exposed to the same virus, most of them become shambling idiots, and only a few become super mutant, that can talk, run and do ninja acrobatics

Mutation is a good way to explain Reiner, Bertholdt, Ymir, and Annie's uniqueness.

As was addressed in this episode, regardless of the titan's size, the size of the weakness spot is exactly the same.
Also, we have already seen cases of humans turning into regular titans in the manga. (Connie's mother)
So yes, it's highly likely that the "human core" is infact, located in the nape (in case of 3m~7m class, "nape and below"). However, it may not retain whole human shape anymore, unlike the "intelligent Titans". They are likely irreversibly turned into Titans.

Unlike the Parasytes, which are highly intelligent beings, Titans are zombie-like in their intelligence and still retain *some* characteristics of their past human life (again, Connie's mother) - so very much like the zombies in some popular series like the Walking Dead.
The lack of reproduction does remind me of the Parasytes. Parasytes were far more interesting and amusing creatures than the titans though.

I really loved Kiseiju one of the most underrated manga in my opinion but I don't see many similarities between the two works apart the fact that both involve monsters who are for some reasons programmed to eat humans.

There's also a reverse situation here, the parasites fused with human body parts taking control over their hosts, here we have humans that meld into titan bodies and taking control over them. Who is the parasite again?

Anyway the titan transformation might be caused by a virus or bacteria (which can be considered parasites to a certain extent) but it could also be something as simple as a drug.

I can see why it reminds him though, there are enough similarities to why it would come up in one's mind. The transformation of humans, the EATING of humans, the lack of reproductive systems, the violence and gore associated, the hiding among other humans, etc, etc.

It's not a strict comparison, but rather, imagery of similarities - not unlike this work's parallels to Muvluv Alternative.

I'm not sure anybody else pointed out but Titans characteristics take inspiration from Ultraman.

1. A man transforming to a giant.

2. A being of light/hardlight that depends on solar energy.

3. Titans like Eren much like Ultramen have a time limit to their endurance.

Hey hey anybody out there posted this? The cover of every volume in the japanese version of the manga has some interesting texts written on it.

DID YOU KNOW?

The inside covers of the Japanese graphic novels have text on them. It’s basically the same image for all of the novels, so this isn’t actually a spoiler.

The text turns out to be upside-down nigh-illegible katakana, but the Japanese side of the SnK fanbase has managed to render it into something more readable.

It seems to concern the history of humanity before the walls.

I’m not great at Japanese, but I tried my hand at translation.

*slight changes have been made to wording for clarification*

Upper Left:

巨人の出現により住処を失い逃げ惑う人々。

People fleeing their homes due to the appearance of the Titans.

Lower Left:

巨人の圧倒的な戦力に成す術もなく、人類は新天地への航海を余儀なくされた。このとき人類のほとんどが死滅 したが、その大半は人同士の手によるのでした。

Unable to match the overwhelming force of the Titans, humanity was forced to sail to a new world. At this time, most of humanity had been annihilated, but the majority of this was at the hands of their fellow humans.

Center (under the volume number):

船に乗れたのはごく少数の権力者たちだけであった。

Those who gained passage aboard the ships were only a small fraction composed of the rich and powerful.

Below Center:

航海は難航を極め、約半数が目的地に到達することなく消息を絶った。

The voyage was rough; about half [of the ships?] vanished without reaching the other shore.

Upper Middle Right:

新天地にはもともと長大な壁が用意された。

In the new world, great walls had previously been prepared.*

Lower Middle Right:

新大陸・・・ここを我々は神聖なるものとして崇める。

This new continent, we shall revere as sacred.

Right:

この壁の中には人類の理想がある。

この壁の中に永久に争いのない世界をつくろう。

Within these walls is the ideal form of humanity.**

Within these walls, let us create a world eternally without strife.

*EDIT: Upon further consideration, changed “originally” to “previously”. In any case, the implication seems to be that the walls were “prepared” some unknown amount of time before the speaker (and the rest of humanity) arrived.

**EDIT: Changed “ideals of humanity” to “ideal form of humanity”. Should be ideal as in idealization, etc.

I been thinking... what if the Titan are in a way similiar to how Gestalt work in the game Nier?

You know this is a spoiler thread? Speculating here will lead to a confirmation or a rejection of your speculation. In other words you will get spoiled. Unless this was your intention.
