you're maybe forgetting that monokuma chose them all
they all got choosen to play the game cause each of them is the extreme in something, that's the setup of the story/game
don't go ignoring the setup, the real question would be why monokuma choose them and what is trying to get from them killing each other

So I had the pleasure of both watching 5 episodes of this anime adaptation, watching a friend play the game for a bit, and also watching about 6-7 hours of footage to the courtesy of youtube, (got up to the 2nd class trial)... and my conclusion is that the anime adaptation is utter trash, whilst the game seems quite good.

Seiji Kishi might be good at comedies (I loved his involvement in Jinrui for example) but he is seriously a hack when it comes to game adaptations and he needs to banned from doing anymore (for the love of god, please let don't let him adapt the Persona 3 movies). He has effectively turned this series into a comedy in that a lot of stupid antics are shown and all the character deaths have virtually zero impact, or in my case, an unintentional comedic impact in how stupid they were in terms of how it was developed. I mean sure, it's inevitable that you have to cut out content for the anime version but I don't know how anyone can take the mystery solving or the murders seriously. Everyone is "told" to your face rather than "shown" and a significant chunk of the 'investigation' part is cut out from the anime portraying the links with the evidence shown during class trial make little to no sense.

So at the end of the day, I'm watching a homeless version of the original game and only really here to watch it to see Kirigiri and Togami in animated from.

He didn't, but it's obvious that there was a lot to cover. But if that's the case why is the adaptation so unnecessarily goofy and stupid to the point where the character deaths and the results of the class trials had virtually no emotional impact. Same goofy shit was wasted in Persona 4 and what I've seen in Devil Survivor.

you are just having a serious preassumption that everything he does is going to turn out goofy and bad.

While I haven't played P4, the anime is highly enjoyable. At the same time the "uber serious" stuff that are anime original in Devil Survivor anime are the worst possible parts. Its the lack of character focus in DS2A that make it less impactful, meaning that theres not enough "goofy" fun parts. It tried to be too dark which is why it failed.

It's good that my suspicions were crushed in the class trial that covered the entire episode. The element of surprise was good, although I don't quite get it if it was just pure accident or a setup bluff that made Owada spill the beans concerning that he already knew the color of the tracksuit that Fujisaki brought with him for training.

KlashiKari, I've already read your thoughts for this episode how they skipped important parts and monologues about the trial that concerned Owadas' motivations for snapping and killing Fujisaki, as well his background and profile.

It's definitely right that I got Fujisaki being a male from my hunch, and obviously because he sounded boyish right from the first episode.

As for Owada, I did pity him for his whole situation, but I felt that they revealed all of his drama story- past and present, just in a single episode for the sake of evoking a sense of sympathy out of the viewers, and not portraying him as a character with flaws.
