Not in SEED, apparently. Why do you think we got Kira/Lacus and Shinn/Lunamaria? I mean, who cares about proper narrative and development between characters when you can have frigidness in bed and filial murder pity?

By the way, am I the only one who thinks the Destiny's design is one big case of the developers not knowing what the hell they're supposed to be doing with the mecha porn?

And yet it still had more meaningful development and all the hallmarks of a reunion complete with reconciliation and redemption for Flay.
And then whoops, gotta go with the pink-haired airhead! Way to fumble, SEED. Way to fumble.

So the more I think about it, the more I have to say WTF about the Hyper-Deuterion Nuclear Reactor. There is no way anyone in their right mind would even try to build that thing, not that it would even work IRL. The laws of physics don't work like that.

sigh I miss Flay, it's a shame she got blown to bits.
And damn it Luna, did you have to act like so annoying this episode? Otherwise, hopefully we'll get to see Cagalli actually do something in the next few episodes.(and yes I know that's wish full thinking) |

The HDNR works by taking deuterion pairs from the nuclear reactor and recycling them back into the reactor. Entropy means you're getting less energy as it goes on. You lose energy converting it into deuterion, and lose yet more feeding it back. You'd only be able to avert it the second time around if you're using... what, antimatter, I think? Overall it's a terrible, terrible idea. Because thermodynamics ruins everything. Yet we can never know, because Kira/Lacus frigidness in bed is apparently better than actual development (and don't say off-screen shit counts as development again, because seriously, if you don't see it happen in a story it's not actually development). We'll never know because Morosawa decided it was a good idea to work up to a reconciliation and then drop the axe on it at the last possible fucking second.

Plus, on a more practical level, if the reactor has enough leftover energy to power its own conversion process (which takes an absolutely ridiculous amount of power to begin with), then that reactor is putting out way too much energy. Far more than it ever should, because you're just wasting fuel and unnecessarily overloading your energy grid.

And Lacus or not, it still doesn't change the fact that their relationship was never meant to last (at least, romantically). Even that supposed alternative ending had one or both of them dying, I believe. |

All things considered the Destiny seems to be less like it was made specifically for Shinn and more like a testbed for technologies that made the whole machine rather impractical. Quote:

By the way, what's a deuterion? I know deuterium is a type of hydrogen atom. |

You've got the WoL, which are just pretty lights the suit's design never even properly utilized and didn't make much of a difference anyway. Seriously, the IJ kept up with the Destiny the entire time, and so did the SF even with its own WoL covered up by the DRAGOONs (and hence heavier). Great asset, there, Destiny. The physical housing of the WoL isn't very impressive either. Despite being based off of the Freedom's wing design, they don't even seem to give the Destiny a HiMAT system. The afterimage system... dear lord, where to start. Not only was no-one ever fooled by it, according to the Wiki it's completely separate from the WoL. Though take that with a grain of salt, though, because it's not sourced. Either way, even if it's not separate, the Destiny has to have the WoL active to use a feature that never even worked properly. Hello, double the waste of energy. There's that armor separation design and internal phase-shift system, which is pretty much useless at this point because kinetic weapons are almost never in use anymore apart from things like vulcans. Even the grunts are decked out with beam weapons at this point, and PS is useless against that. The weapons are just fail all around, too. Doesn't exist. CE made it up.
