Doesn't surprise me in the least. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that doujin started showing up after that very first video clip before there was a show announcement. Never underestimate the powers of enthusiastic fan artists.

On a slightly different note, does anyone else fear that we won't actually see Haru's race in the next episode? That we'll just hear the results of the tournament but not see any of what happened? It's that darn preview with all the festival clips and Rei's comments about how they're in the middle of the tournament that has me worried. They wouldn't really do that to us, would they??

about the doujins, do they either feature Gou service or typically its just the guys trying to jam eachother's entry & exit hatches with their respective lightsabers?

There was doujin/fanart out the minute that commercial aired earlier this year

I hope that will not be the case. After what Haru went through, I want to see him kick arse and the team taste some sweet victory for once.

They could hold off on showing us a full medley race until the regionals as a display of season-ending animation.

I want to see Haru's race too. I'm probably being paranoid for no reason. I'm so used to seeing spoilers in the previews that I get nervous now when they don't contain spoilers.

I was in a Barnes and Noble yesterday and actually overheard someone mention Free!, though not by name. Sadly, I was disappointed by this since it was described as "that gay-ass anime where all they do is swim".

Episode 9 was fun. The sitcom hijinks at the festival were not that original, but were still done well, and Rin's character moment explained quite a bit (in addition to leading to the hook at the very end).

This was an all right episode.

I almost felt bad for Rin crying at their old school...but then he acted like an asshole again.

I forgive you, Rei, for being a dumbass and getting you and Makoto nearly drowned....someone was back in full on fabulous form playing detective.

Dammit, things were finally getting better with Haruka focusing on more important things than angsty shark boy. Shark boy just had to angst his way into the relay. Only a matter of time before they have a scene of him angsting hard in the shower.

Cool! The relay was just awesome!
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Seems like Haru found his much needed motivation.
Looks like Rin got exactly what he needed to think twice about his decision.
Gou is a pretty good manager ^^
So they put in a summer festival into this episode... guess that's to be expected.
Although, this anime is half about swimming and half about their personal dramas.
They sure are keeping it nicely balanced ^^
