Exstetra (Vita/3DS JRPG)

Exstetra is a JRPG recently announced by FuRyu, for release on the 17th of October (in Japan for now) for the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS.

Teaser trailer:

And a clip for one of the game's characters, Shiho:

Presumably more character clips will surface before too long.

Interesting even here you kiss a guy to transform....Also seems it's Tony Taka's artwork.
Hope this gets license

I hope those morons who said "We don't like to make female protags because having the player kiss a guy would be gay" just suicided. =\

I know the guy is prob the main character, but still..... those people are scum.

Anyway... Do I really have to say what anime/manga this reminds us of? XD

I'm surprised they are making a 3DS version. I know the Vita base is pretty bad, but the 3DS users are full of RPGs right now with stuff like Etrian Odyssey or Megami Tensei or Mario and Luigi. And when I look at the screenshots, I start wondering what is so appealing about this...
Tony's art is great, except the fact it is the stamp art-type.

Guns, transforms into yellow themed clothes, and a tiny hat. So you're saying this Shiho girl is not long for the world?

And yeah, I don't expect this to get licensed. But then again, I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to things that look interesting coming out of Japan on anything but the PS3.

the kissing thing reminds me of a anime. Nothing about anything not belonging. It reminds me of Seirekie or something, frustrating name to remember how to spel.

I doubt this will come out in the west...but who knows, we do get surprises every now and then.

*sigh* I really need to learn Japanese some day.

I'm with you. This sounds insanely interesting which almost guarantees that it'll never see the light of day outside of Japan. It's a shame, I was sold the moment that Claris song came in on the trailer

Just something nice about the setup. Some good old exploration and turn based combat .

I'm playing actually this game and I may say that I'm liking the game construction and the story, in a post-apocalypse Tokyo... Some references to some parts of Tokyo city. But still I may say that in terms of linearity is too linear:

- First you explore, with some random encounters in between;
- Then you have a boss fight in the end, with a new party member or without it (It depends, for example with Mizuki you first make her add to your party and then you fight the area boss. With Masaru Miratai it's the opposite, after the boss battle a CG happens and then he joins your team);
- The you go to the town for stock resupply and etc...;
- Then you go explore again and visit some decadent parts that remember famous localizations in Japan, going underground to the dungeon, then a lot of random battles and some easy puzzles;
- Then another boss battle and you return to the town for more stock resupply, weapon and armour upgrade;
- Then rinse and repeat...

[EDIT]

Now with about 20 hours of game, 4 side quests done and 7 team members the game starts to evolve in terms of story.

I'm enjoying the game play, a little repetitive but at the same time refreshing, making me remember TB-RPGs as Golden Sun for example. It is as a return to the 90s/beginning of the 00s. Had pre-ordered without knowing the game or read anything about it , only some days after and I do not regret.

It could be better? Yes, some things could be a little different, mainly some gameplay that makes you do the same thing again and again (for example using magic or items for stat restore takes you to the item class/character main menu instead of using the same item/magic as many times you liked till depleted or cancelled by the player) but I'm enjoying.

[/EDIT]
