Interesting. Elsewhere you mentioned this episode is the longest as well. I know people can handle that, but can networks handle that?

Spoiler for Ending?:

It beats Episode 20 for nearly a minute. After what they did with that one, i fear what they might do with this one. Thank God for BC and Blu-Rays. XD

Yamato 2199 story guide book with character and mecha info, including scenes recreated with model kits.

Should be better than all the pamphlet books combined. Hope there will be new information, but I will still get it for the screenshots.

Assuming someone doesn't sub them before that. But considering what has happened prior to that, they'll just wait a month for the official version to be out.

After reading part of a thread on Something Aweful Forum about Yamato 2199, I think the English wikipedia needs to be updated to reflect some of what is on the Japanese wikipedia on the series. (mostly because I don't want to spend $10 just to straighten out facts on SA Forum about the ranks and uniforms)

I've not played with wikipedia (or at least not in a long while). But the Japanese entry on the ranks, color divisons, and the commanding officer's uniform colors would probably be enough added information, as there are confused people out there that are not liking the show because they can't understand who has what rank and think the colors are random. (also it might be pointed out that the three bars on their shoulder is suppose to be their name and position, just you never see that in the show as it is too small to read...but it shows up in promotional materials).

For the commanding officers, it seems color coded as well by ship type. But it might not be all that concrete (or they are running out of ship captains). It is orange, green, and red. Orange is suppose to be for the destroyer captains. Green is the Cruiser captains, and Red is the battleship captains or admirals.

The problem with this is that the only captains we see in are:
Momoru Kodai (orange with a red uniform?) destroyer captain.
Okita's son (orange) unknown command
A cruiser captain at Pluto (orange)
Shima's father (green) cruiser captain
Yamanami (green) battleship captain
Hijikata (red) Admiral
Okita (red) Admiral/battleship captain

The other option is that was from the division they came up through the ranks as. Perhaps seen in the dress uniforms on Iscandar. Though that still doesn't explain Mamoru's red uniform and orange coat collar. All the other commanding officer seem to be in white uniforms.

Capt. Yamanami's colar was green, though his coat was the same as Okita and Hijikata (whose collar is orange, not red), only slightly shorter. Another difference is Yamanami, Okita and Hijikata's insignias and uniform details (cap shield, shoulder stripes, trim, etc.) are golden over black, Mamoru's are silver over dark grey. So maybe that's a captain thing. We never saw any other captains of a Yukikaze class destroyer or around the same rank level of Mamoru so this is a mere guess. But Okita's son has the same jacket (grey with silver details) as Mamoru, unfortunately there's no piece of his uniform showing so we can't say for certain wether or not it is orange also.

Oh, and just to add to the confusion, the guy that seems to be the captain of the battleship Abakuma (the one that gets hit by the destroyer Shimakaze), seems to be wearing a standard crew uniform but with a captain's hat instead of a blue cap.

I guess captains and admirals uniforms as well as dress uniforms have a more detailed system to it than usual. The UNCN and UNCF uniforms back on Earth and in the Fleet were also a bit different that what Yamato's crew wears. The silver and gold shoulder ranks must be confusing as we see people with silver bars in dress uniforms, yet what do warrent officers and enlisted wear for such things since they have silver bars normally. And Sanada had a gold cheveron in his green uniform on Earth. Was that not a dress uniform? So many questions.

I'm going to assume the Earth book has the answers to these questions.

Anyway, just under six hours until the series ends. Then we shall see where they go afterwards. An October 6th announcement would be spectacular.

Seems like they're going for an original story.

Or maybe it'll be a trek into darkness that is loaded with references to the other Yamato sequels.

They've been talking about maybe doing a prequel about the Gamilas War for a bit now. Maybe this is it? Don't know.

WTF, and it is still set in 2199 or are they just using it as a temporary brand name? So a single movie with Garmilas vs White Comet? Please not an adaptation of A New Journey. Please not an adaptation of anything.

The Tarantula Nebula is home to the Rainbow Clusters.

Well, there is a lot of the year 2199 left after Yamato left Iscandar and Gamilas behind. Yamato probably wasn't doing much, but the Gamilas probably were.

They have lost a lot of ships in their war against Yamato. That's got to hurt the reputation of the Empire. Then you have the internal problems between the Military and the Imperial Guard. Dessler? And whatever rebuilding they do with Iscandar's help. There could be rebellions. Or the other worse thing that would tie in as a bridge that will effect Earth later, the Comet Empire invades Gamilas space.

No telling how much of the Gamilas fleet is gone, but they lost thousands of ships against Yamato. Maybe as many as ten thousand from al engagements. Some of their best commanders and ships. Part of their subspace network is down. The chain of command might be iffy. Most of their largest ships are gone now from what I can tell. If the Comet Empire was going to cause havoc, this would be the time.

It is fortunate that the show mostly gets across its ideas without needing suntitles. But those will come eventually.

Plus there is more on the way. Next year there will be more. It is just a matter of what.

In the original, the Yamato was guilty of causing volcanic eruptions on the already almost desolate Garmilas home planet. Now, it has done the blunder of blowing up Balun and destroying the majority of the Garmilas fleet. Of course, they may have justified it to Starsha by saying that it was for self defense. In this version, we also see Garmilas as Iscandar's guardian of sorts despite having opposing views in being an arms race. So there is kind of an irony going on.

I had always thought Yamato almost destroying Garmilas in the original deemed itself as an aggressor and in 2199 it is trying to contrast that.

Perhaps Garmilas losing its fleet will make it more of a humble civilisation.

I think the Gamillas still have enough ships to defend their realm, but not enough to defend the conquered territories in the Milky Way and the Small Magellanic Cloud.
The era of the conquering empire is over.
