Though the friendship between the shimogamo siblings and benten still confuses me, and the plot might explain it as their "blood of fool", I still can't wrap my head around the fact that they're being all cuddly cuddly with the one who ate their father. it looks like everything's well though, since soun went somewhere, although I would've really liked to see him boiled and eaten.

2100 BDs, DVDs don't chart. Not the worst opening week ever, but predictably mediocre.

Unfortunately we'll never see the sequel novels adapted it seems, which also means I won't ever get to see the story finished since I can't read Japanese. Shame.

Don't forget Watamote, as we'll find out this week.

Assuming 2100 is the average sale per episode, it's not doing well. It's below Manabi Line(まなびライン). Manabi Line is 2300(the rumored break even point).

Male customers tend to buy BD, and female customers tend to buy DVD. So, it makes the difference. If the sale is below 1000, they usually don't show the figure. Maybe it's embarrassing.

That tenkui in the Hawaiian shirt looks like the former Japanese prime minister.

The Manabi Line is at best a broad estimate, at worst a complete fabrication with no relation to actual profitability, but it's generally held to be about 2900. As for the threshold, it's simply a matter or how many titles sold enough to rank that weak, embarrassment has nothing to do with it - the number goes up and down depending on how strong an overall week it was for Bd or DVD sales. The DVD threshold last week was 905, so you know Uchouten sold less than that.

Beautiful show.

The scenery of Kyoto was spot-on too.

Pretty good and interesting show, but still VERY weird.
I'm not sure if it's deliberate to be in the tone of the "myths and legends" background, if it's because of the personnal kirks of the author, if it's an attempt at being postmodernist or whatever, but I'm having a headache trying to make sense of most of the character's reactions and the show's premisses.

Still puzzled at how lightly assassination, attempted murder and other crimes seems to be taken by Tanuki as a whole (some guy sent someone in a stew ? Attempted to do the same to his son ? Kidnapped three people ? Well, no biggie, he's just self-banished out of shame ; this girl captured to killed my father ? Well, that's not nice, but I find her beautiful so who cares ?).
Also puzzled at the "humans dominate" setting (when a Tanuki can transform into a tiger and rip their head off, why are they felt as a danger ?), the reason of the existence/history of the Friday's Fellows (what exactly IS this group, why do they eat Tanuki each year ?), if they actually realize that Tanuki are sentient creatures, and if yes how they can justify eating them. Also, Benten seems completely insane, but that seems to be the defining factor of the character, so yeah.
Etc., etc.

So while I liked the show quite a bit, I can't really appreciate it fully because it's too much "in-between" two genres : it's too down-to-earth to be entirely mythical (and as such make the inconsistencies simply irrelevant details), but it's far too weird to be actually realistic. Don't really know how to take it.
