Yeah - interesting thing, for me Tsuritama didn't do a whole lot (not that it was bad, mind you), but Gatchaman did. Much of the feedback I have come across from this announcement has been from people who really liked Tsuritama, and for whom Gatchaman didn't do much. I wonder how the two series were received in Japan?

Same director/writer team too which is odd. I am sure there are people who loved or disliked both equally though.

I didn't hate Gatchaman Crowds at all it just didn't work for me like it did so many other people.

You should watch the rest. There is the strange half-recap/half-new episode near the end, and the resolution is a bit open-ended which makes a sequel more plausible.

I met someone my age who is a professional sculptor with an interest in Japanese art. I've re-watched some of my anime collection recently with him, including the "Bakeneko" story that precedes Mononoke. I still think it's the best of all of Nakamura's Apothecary stories, though like you I'd love to see some more. A sequel where he is fifteen or twenty years older and still fighting the good fight could be intriguing. I'd like to see whether his edge has been ground down or sharpened to a finer pitch over the years.

I watched up to episode 6 or 7 after hearing a lot of praise for it but I just couldn't get into it for some reason.

Perhaps now we'll find out what went down with Hajime and BK.

Kinako, the original character designer, tweeted about wanting to see the full version of the finale again, so it's 100% confirmed that the bonus footage screened at the event yesterday was definitely what we expected. Now to wait for the BD box next year...

Just watched this show for the first time (all 12 episodes back to back) and it's just finished and all I have to say is "SO AWESOME"!

I have not enjoyed any show enough to marathon since Zipang.

This is getting a sequel as well yay

The complete version of episode 12 is out. It includes the extended ending. It was pretty darn good. The scene where Hajime takes Katse into her body was pretty intense (if kinda creepy).

It would have been cool if they had this ending on the tv broadcast.

Ugh, taking him into her body...brr.

Hopefully I get to see it soon, for some reason I stopped after watching episode 6.

remember to use a headphone for that insertion scene.

This extended ending also added more depth to Hajime's character.

Man... poor Hajime.

I guess that is one way to handle the situation.... Still, much better ending than the tv airing in my opinion. A great finish to a great series. ^^

Is the extended ending subbed, or did you mean the raws were just released?

I haven't seen any English fansubs yet. I looked again just now.

There's still no subtitled version of the "Director's Cut" episode twelve that I can find. I still see only a raw in "webshit" 360p.

OK...so here's something interesting.

While searching "anime" on Amazon (the AMERICAN Amazon, not Japanese) I noticed "Gatchaman Crowds Complete Collection" was coming out on July 29th. And no, this occurred on March 25th as that was the day I wrote it down to remember to buy it, so it wasn't an April Fools thing.

But now when I search for it? Nothing. No Crowds.

...what the hell?

Although Amazon seems to not have any anime releases past June 24th now (other than a Japanese BD, which they started including for some reason). It might just be that they culled all data past that and will update their search results sometime in the near future.

I browsed a bit at Amazon after reading ZodiacBeast's post. I didn't find any BD releases, but I did find this cosplay item:
Images
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
The costume is a bit more modest on the bottom than Utsu-tsu's original, but a pretty good rendition anyway. Wonder if it's waterproof? Even if not, it lends itself to some artistic pool- or ocean-side lounging.
