Polygon does excellent work, but thr whole premise sounds so uninspired.

Moon Phase lists it for Spring 2014.

ANN article: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...in-spring-2014

Sounds like a premature release of info to me.

New PV:

I do appreciate that Starchild or whomever is subtitling these in English.

Still not sure how I feel about a full CG series after Arpeggio this season, but we'll see.

I keep thinking of Haruto Tokishima when the main character says "Zero ja nai" in the end since they are both Ryota Ohsaka's characters.
Other than that, the cast sounds really awesome to hear thanks to some of my favorite seiyuus and even the Rurouni Kenshin composer is in!
My only gripe however is some of CGI shots really look blatant but then I'm using to Arpeggio of Blue Steel's full CGI-ness. Let's see what they will do the same thing in Sidonia.

Well, I think we can safely say we're safe where action scenes are concerned and we don't really have much of a plot to follow to begin with so I think it's safe to say this can't fail.

The battle in that trailer looks awesome to be honest. I was never a fan of the drawing of this particular mangaka though (no matter how artsy it looks). But this anime actually looks good.

Well, in terms of 3DCG mecha battles, anime studios has been doing it for years. And now I think we’ve arrived at the point where, in many mecha series, 3DCG mecha battles already look good by default (albeit still plenty of rooms for improvements). The one thing that will obviously divide the audience would be the cel-shaded CG characters. Just like Arpeggio of Blue Steel, some will love it, feeling mixed, being okay, on the fence, dislike it, or outright despise it. I personally is more on the camp of people who dislike it purely because the technology (and budget) of anime studios aren’t quite there yet to give us cel-shaded characters that can move fluidly. 2D characters can get away with still-frames, since, well, they’re 2D. But once you make them into 3D, still & jerky movements will result in them look like robots instead of people. Still, that’s just a minor gripe and certainly won’t turn me off if story execution & characters are actually good (like what has been proven by Arpeggio). And considering Arpeggio is such a success (especially in the commercial department), we can expect more full-CG anime series to come. I just hope that improvement in terms of cel-shaded characters execution will come along with the release of each new Full-CG series.

I'm more a fan of 3DCG for the mecha while 2D, traditional animation, for any human characters but it's not a deal-breaker for me.

3DCG for mecha has greatly improved and, while I don't want traditional 2D animation for giant robots to fade out entirely, I'm completely open to it in the anime.

The trailer looked good, so I'll be sure to give this a watch .

It's not like it's a choice between 2D and 3D animation for mecha these days, the amount of 2d mecha animators are going down and the only ones you can expect traditional 2d mecha animation from anymore is Bones and Sunrise. I'll still say the mecha animation in Star Driver is vastly more impressive than any mecha 3d work around.... though there are certain things you can do in 3D that you just can't do in 2d, but it's not like most of them try that and not every 3dCG studio is as good as say Orange.

I picked up the first volume of the manga of Knights of Sidonia and found it incredibly hard to follow. It looks like such an incredible work, though. I'm hoping if I watch the first few episodes of the anime adaptation, the manga will make more sense to me and I can continue reading it. Unsure how I feel about the CG/3D animation...

This is going to be hard to get used to because I hate the character designs so much. EVERYTHING ELSE looks amazing, though.

Hmm, ...Polygon have experience in CGI, so The CGI are acceptable, kinda GuP Level of CGI...

Is even The Human Characters CGI? Their way of movements somewhat like in Freedom Project, but only when in Space...

Is the source material -safe-? Aside from the first chapter does it feature nudity frequently?
