there are still geishas around, they're meant for entertaining guest and their customers.

Ryoma is a real life historical personality in Japanese history.

He is one of the samurais that understood the power of the industry and gun so he sought to arm Japan to resist the Western powers by adopting their knowledge. He also fought the shogun traditionalists to revive the Emperor.

And yes, he did carry a Colt Peacemaker pistol. I read his autobiography 3 years ago.

yes the entire shinsengumi came right out from history... as someone mentioned earlier that even the personality of characters and what they were like is highly similar to real life history... which is why it is so sad because if it keeps heading in that direction.....

Spoiler:

sniff sniff

Anime Okita is kinda girly sometimes, is it the same as the real okita in history?

and which one exactly are you crazy about? hehe

Its a mix of both actually.... I'm really in to guys who are good with kids and according to some history write ups this was true in real life. Yes I agree that he is a little feminine in the anime but its his ability to carry two extremes that really gets to me... like in the latest ep

Spoiler:

real life...... his dedication and loyalty to the group even when carrying the disease is really touching..... its really admirable.... except the fact that he could've have been spreading it around is not so appealing....... but during those times.... i suppose he just didn't know

a reputable man he is...

This Shinsengumi history is really interesting...

Being too lazy to search/read about the history, I hope I can know more about it from the anime ^^

i don't see the fascination with PM. Sure, it started out fancy, and it had the benefit of kenshin-fame, but after seeing 12 episodes, i"m ready to quit (not to include having seen the preview for ep 13, it will be another waste of time). Every ep is pointless so far and ep 12 is a grand example of that.
