Like most I'm curious as to what they're planning to go story-wise. The project director has stated that the overriding theme of the show is how one deals with moving on from a sheltered life and learning to work and co-exist with others as a society.

I can understand how some people might've been disappointed when they expected a space epic with endless Gundam/Macross-esque fights, but personally I quite liked the direction the show took and I would like for the staff to treat the sequel in a similar vein i.e. the exploration of human interaction in a sci-fi setting (with your signature Urobuchi conspiracy looming in the narrative ), instead of another one of your run-of-the-mill space mecha show we seem to be getting every single season.
Yeah, I'm surprised too that the show is getting a second season since I feel like the response to it was good but no where near the level that would convince the studio it was worth doing a whole second season on. A compilation movie with a few extra scenes was what I was expecting, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the news.

I wonder for the second season if they might follow up on the theme of the first season and explore what happens after a young person joins society. After all, the path of life doesn't become clear once you've find your place in the world. There are still a lot of obstacles we have to overcome on a daily bases, both big and small, and I'm wondering if these mundane but daily challenges might be the theme they'll tackle in the second season.

I honestly wonder if its going to still be following Ledo, I feel like his story was over so I got to think that while the setting will still obviously be on the Gargantia, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a whole new cast in a different time but with a lot of the same style and world structure.

Are talking about Gargantia, about Valvrave, or both?

Back at the end of the regular season, I posted these speculations about a sequel or sequels:
Quote:
This has all the trappings of an "adventure-of-the-week" show starring Ledo, Amy, the squirrels, and a large supporting cast. There are a lot of possible side stories, too, with Pinion and his inamoratas, Ridget, Bebel, the flying girls, etc. There is also the whole mystery of the whalesquids and the open question about what's happening out in space and its relationship to what's happening on earth. I'm not thinking so much of another season but a franchise extending over multiple seasons. Urobutchi could have auteur responsibilities, but only write the occasional episode. Think Gene Roddenberry.

This would be a great thing for I.G. It would provide a nice predicable revenue stream to free them up for less conventional productions.

For me it's to early to tell if this second season is going to come either as another TV series or a movie.

However, I digress continuing the story, at least Ledo's. His journey is done.

The plot for the first series is self-concluding the way it was told, developed, and ended.

I'm certain that as soon as definitive or even reasonable speculative information regarding start date is circulated, someone will post something here. For now, I work under the assumption that no news is just that: no news.

Can anyone confirm/deny whether these new OVAs are the a few months ago announced "Sequel" or not?

Oh no.... so the "sequel" is nothing more than 2 OVAs... why didn't they say so from the beginning?

Does anyone know if Crunchyroll streams OVAs? Recently they got the Mushishi and SAO films, but I'm getting the feeling that we'll have to wait for Viz on this one...

SAO wasn't a film, it was just a long recap with a new episode. If these are truly OVAs, which means you have to physically purchase them via either mail-in or in-store, then no, Crunchyroll will not have them. And since they're only two episodes, I'm about 70% sure that they will be true OVAs and not TV specials.
