ATI vid cards equivalent of Nvidia vid cards

I always bought Vid cards with Nvidia chipset. So I was wondering if there is any site or if anyone here can provide info about the ATI equivalent from Nvidia. I am talking about ATI vid card performance equivalent to a Nvidia vid card performance.

I dont know if I made myself clear!

Well, I usually check www.xbitlabs.com for reviews. When they review a new card they usually have at least its rival card for comparison (usually more) so you can check. As a rule of thumb though, the top ATi cards are more or less equal to the top Nvidia cards and so on. If you take a look at the various benchmarks, while ATi/Nvidia differences in frames are there, they are uimportant most of the time. ALTHOUGH, having had both ATi and Nvidia cards in the past (and having an SLi setup right now), I have to say that ATi tends to make better drivers.

Before ATi's X1900XTX launch, Nvidia's 7800GTX was the fastest card around. I haven't seen a comparison between ATi's flagship card and the new Nvidia 7900 card (not sure if it's available in retail yet) as well as the Quad SLi, so I can't say right now.

ATi Crossfire is steadily improving though so it will probably reach a point when it can match Nvidia's SLi.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid.../3dmark06.html

It's a comparison of high, mainstream and low budget cards in the new 3dMark2006.

Have you actually searched the site?

Even if ATI chips are as good as nVidia's, they are more expensive. At the moment, AMD and nVidia offer the best price/performance ratio combo in the market whereas Intel and ATI are a worse choise.

I say this because I recently bought a new comp and a bit later a new vid.card. GF7800 GT = 330 €. Top of the line. Radeon X1800XT = 380 € (cheapest model, others going from 400 to 700 €). Top of the line X1900 *starts* from 600 €!

Overall Nvidia cards produce more raw FPS, however most hardware enthusiasts agree that ATI cards produce better image quality. It all comes down to a difference of filtering techniques as well as hardware implementation. Personally the performance of either companies' cards are so close it really doesnt matter which one you choose. Unless you have an allegience to a specific company grab whatever card is cheaper as they will both perform similarily. There are some exceptions to this rule but generally speaking you won't be dissipointed with either companies. I myself am a total Nvidia fanboy so I only buy Nvidia based cards but ATI cards are still excellent.

I can try and help you out a bit with performance numbers. Please note that this list was created from WHAT I REMEMBER and may have a few errors as I can't remember everything. If you want a more complete list search google or something as I have decided to end the list there since cards older than these should not be purchased unless you are seriously strapped for cash and your motherboard doesn't have integrated graphics.

Nvidia............................................ .....ATI

7900GTX.........................................X1 900XTX
7800GTX 512..................................X1900XTX
7900GT...........................................X 1900XT
7800GTX 256..................................X1800XT
7800GT...........................................X 1800XL
7600GT...........................................X 1600XT
7600GS...........................................X 1600Pro
6800Ultra........................................X 850XTPE
6800GS/6800GT..............................X800XT/X800Pro
6800.............................................. ..????????????????
6600GT...........................................X 700Pro
6600.............................................. .X700
5950 Ultra......................................9800XT

I believe I have left out 1 or 2 XL variants for the ATI cards.I have also left out the 6200, 6200TC, 7300 series as well. I did this because those are super low end budget cards that offer minimal performance anyway so I saw little point in comparing ATI and Nvidia counterparts as any card at theat price range performs similarily.

Thx Shadowlord. That's something I was looking for. I did a google search but the info was spread out.

I find this in shop near by:

Asus GeForce 6800XT/TD 128MB DDR AGP 149
XFX Geforce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 AGP 164

Is the price difference of these 2 because of the core speed? I went to some forums and some ppl recommended the 6800 over the 6600.

For the ATI part I find this one:

ATI Radeon X700 / 400MHz / 256MB DDR 154

(yeah they are AGP cox I dont have money to get new MB. Getting new MB means new RAM, CPU, etc)

The 6800XT is actually a superior card compared to the 6600GT despite the lower price. It has more shader pipelines than that of the 6600GT or the X700pro so it is definitely the better buy if your trying to decide between those three.

Performance wise it looks like this:

6800XT
6600GT
X700pro

with the 6800XT being the fastest and the X700pro the slowest.
